I had this same exact problem too, scared the crap out of me. GameEx would just keep re-loading. Don't worry it's possible to fix, I did. Hmmm how did I fix it though, can't really remember. Do you have another machine you can sneak in over the network? Remote desktop over and GameEx should crash on the Remote desktop sceen allowing you to end the Instant shell process? I foget, might have just kept hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del and got lucky though.

Hi Tom, I'm so excited about the new features. I can't launch a game though, I get this crash report. Hmmm something interesting here... Jefadams do you have your ESC key rigged to an actual arcade button? I think that was causing this problem. I unconnected my ESC button and the screen saver works fine now.
-
I use MAME32 bacuse it's just easy to configure on a per-game basis. Certain game acting funny? Slow? Wrong resolution? Just launce Mame32, right-click properties for the game in mame32 GUI and fix. This way GameEx still obays MAME32 settings. It's nice.
-
Well I ran EasyCleaner to get rid of any reg keys, still the same problem. This is strange because after the initial power up, the screen savers work. It's just when you start any game it creates this situation. BR

Sorry Tom, This is a Zinc configuration error on my part.

You can configure Windows XP to automate the logon process if your computer is not part of a domain. 1. Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2. 2. Clear the Users must enter a username and password to use this computer check box. 3. Click Apply. 4. Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK. 5. Click OK again and you're all done. This feature allows other users to start your computer and use the account that you establish to automatically log on. Enabling auto logon makes your computer more convenient to use, but can pose a security risk. Or try something here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm or http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315231

Hey Jefadams, I did install instant sheller a while back... I didin't like it so I un-install it. Maybe it left some reg keys behind? Sounds about around the time I started having the screen saver issues. I'll run a reg clean when I get home.
-
Confirmed in 5.32 also. With Bypass Disclaimer/Warnings disabled in both GameEx and MAME32 this is still occurring. How about you jefadams?
-
Iâ??m using a hotrod SE. The hotrod has a Street Fighter II (6 button) layout. On what seems to be random games, if I press one of the bottom rows of buttons, say the one that is mapped as LEFT CTRL, GameEx will exit out of the game. What could be causing this? This occures in Zinc and Mame.
-
Try extracting these files in to you "ctrlr" dir. ctrlr.zip
-
Nope! It's back! Immediately after the screen saver launches, I keep getting this line repeated many times in the log: Key/Joy press detected: Exiting Attract mode: 1B:27 But I am not pressing any keys. Could the "ok" command youâ??re sending through be triggering this? Using MAME32 1.02u4 / GameEX 5.31 / XP Pro

Completed Feature Requests (Moved)
bobross replied to jr9770's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
Hi Tom, Would it be possible to implement a simple 4-digit password (joystick scrollable of course) when the Exit GameEx option is turned on? This would prevent roommates and non-computer people from; freaking out, freezing, drunkenly yelling, banging on my door at 3 am, leaving the machine on all night so windows icons can burn-in the screen - if they accidentally exit GameEx out to windows. Thanks, Bob Ross -

After enabling the Exit GameEx feature, and re-starting GameEx, the favorites do stay. Before though, I could add a favorite and flip my cabinet power switch and they would still be there when I powered back on. I like that because I don't want people to exit to desktop. The turn off system feature won't really work for me because although it'll turn off my PC, my cabinet stays on. Is there a work around for this?
-
Hmm strange, I upgraded to MAME32 1.02.4 and it seems to have "fixed" the issue. I swear it was happening!
-
Ok I'll get a log to you sometime friday night. I am using MAME32 1.0.2. Please don't make me switch, Tom Please!

Hi Tom, I think something may be wrong with the new admin clear everything option. Installed 5.30, cleared everything and added a bunch of favorites again. I always do a soft reset so zone alarm registers GameEx. After doing all of this, I powered my cabinet off. Upon powering up and selecting favorites, all favorites have been lost.
-
Hi Tom, I just upgraded to version 5.30. After launching a game and remaining in a sub-menu (i.e. favorites) the screen saver will not function properly. GameEx goes to a black screen and then returns to GameEx. I noticed this on a couple earlier versions too. Seems the screen saver only functions properly from a fresh launch of GameEx?

Awesome new features! Thanks Tom!

Maybe I do not understand the principles here. So here is my current scenario. GameEx @ 640x288, Turn off the stretching etc in MAME, ArcadeVGA settings are on. So with the GameEx menu stable, I launch a Neo*Geo game, next SF2, runs fine, perfect. Now I launch a Battle Zone and Mrs. Pac Man and the v-hold is all jacked. So by fixing these games, the GameEx menu is now flipping out v-hold wise. On top of all this, when I exit to windows, its v-hold is flipping out. I really can't seem to figure out why it is so confusing. I mean, I have all the hardware, ArcadeVGA, Arcade monitor... What am I missing here? Should all my Mame32 ini's be deleted? I guess I do not really understand what the ArcadeVGA settings are really doing, what do you mean by stretch to 640x288 GameEx is already at 640x288? Why would I want to stretch to 256? When does this always stretch take effect? Does that override something? In a perfect world I would like the GameEx menu at 640x480, and all the games to run unfiltered. Man I feel stupid!

Hi Tom, Something isnâ??t right here. I changed the GameEx display to 640x288. Right off the bat I need to adjust the v-hold to get GameEx to display properly, no biggie. After some monitor tweaking the GameEx display top and bottom are cut-off and no matter what tweaking I canâ??t â??shrinkâ? it back to fit the screen. GameEx seems really streched now. After turning on ArcadeVGA setting to on, game v-holds need to be adjusted wrecking the GameEx v-hold setting. The games seem to also display half size in the middle of the screen. Strange...

Ok, Iâ??m in a configuration nightmare here. Let me tell you what Iâ??m trying to achieve and maybe someone can tell me how or if it can be done. Right now Iâ??m using an arcade monitor, ArcadeVGA and GameEx 5.25 running Mame32 with the â??stretch using hardwareâ? option. 1. I LOVE this because I can play all games â??full screenâ? and preserve the aspect ratio. 2. I HATE this because when this option is checked, you get this slight filtering of the game that does not look 100% authentic. So my question is: How can I get rid of this filter effect and still have the games display nicely on my arcade monitor? I donâ??t mind at all the black sides on games like Mrs. PacMan and Raiden, but I would like games like street fighter to cover the whole screen. Do I need to use AdvanceMAME in conjunction with GameExâ??s arcade mode? This is getting really confusing. I'm not understanding all these settings and some seem to cancel eachother out. Thank for any suggestions, BobRoss
