Taking a short break from ePSXe. I've gotten the roms and even the ones with the .ecm file extension running, thanks to pakkiso, in an emulator called "pSX". However, the emulator (both by itself and through game ex) is having problems with the memory cards. I tried to play resident evil 2, and when I went to pick a file under "memory card" in the game, it said "formatting is required. So I tried fresh new ones with nothing on them, and put them into the emulator instead. Same result. If I can't figure this out, I'll go back to ePSXe, but I really want to give pSX a shot, since it seems to run pretty simple and doesn't need daemon tools.

Now you tell me, Dazzle. lol. I went back to the evo thread with the topic, because I figured that's what I was supposed to do, since I "sort of" went off topic, and turned the conversation into a "what if this happened one day" instead of a question or a "how do i do this." I turned the question into a conversation, so I thought it was the right thing to do to go elsewhere. Because whenever it was the other way around, when I would turn a conversation into a question, the question portion would get moved to its own thread, or a question related thread. ... ... ... in other words, I'm desperately trying to jump through the right hoops here... now IF I'M STILL NOT DOING THIS RIGHT... then you may blow my brains out, if I don't do it myself first. In all fairness, I do have aspergers syndrome, which confucius say is: the occasional obstacle rock in the river of flowing comprehension.

Dazzle, where is the theme editor?

I actually can't find pakkiso. I found a couple download links, but they took the file down.

Feature & Enhancement Requests
Lighty replied to Tom Speirs's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
Here's what I think would be a neat addition to GameEx, if possible in the future, or maybe to GameEx Evolution. I REALLY hope this is in the right thread, since I have the tendency to unintentionally jump through the wrong hoops, lol. I asked about TV ads for emulators (rather consoles) earlier, and that was addressed afterwards. I probably didn't explain myself too well. I kinda meant on a bigger scale. Here's my idea. (Not sure if this was already discussed.) You know how when you highlight a game (example: highlighting Alien Trilogy, under Playstation) and it shows you the summary, year of release, box art, cart (or CD), and in some cases a video clip? What if the same thing could be done when you highlight an emulator? For example, let's say I have Nestopia, but I have it named as "Nintendo Entertainment System" in my emulator selection menu within GameEx. What if I could highlight the console name, and it would display all sorts of information, just like GameEx does with the roms? Maybe it could show the original packaging that the system came in when it was new. Or maybe its original release date. An ad from an old Nintendo Power, or a TV commercial from 1986. Its original retail price upon release. How many units it sold. How many "bits" it was (8 bit for NES of course). It's top 5 best selling games. The years of its life span. I hope I'm not sounding too ambitions. I just thought it would be an interesting idea. We already have enough information about the games for the most part. Why not also have information about their consoles? Especially since the consoles are their home. They are the very core of what retro gaming represents. When we say "Super Mario Bros. 3", we automatically and subconsciously think "Old Nintendo." When we say "Sonic the Hedgehog 2", we think "Sega Genesis." Again I hope I'm not asking too much, but I felt it would be a neat and ambitious idea. -
It is now lol. Thank you.

I think I understand where you guys are coming from. Basically, there's an extra info option for roms, which would play videos, listed under "cartridge" and "box" and etc... OR... A video plays when you highlight the name of the emulator/console name INSTEAD of the logo. Like if a nintendo commercial started playing instead of seeing the "nintendo entertainment system" logo. I know this topic was split from the EX Evolution thread, but I'm not sure if I explained myself very well, lol. I was kind of thinking on a slightly bigger scale. I should probably take this back to the GameEx Evolution thread, since I think my question was answered. You're definitely welcome to read :-)

Well, basically, I'm using the theme "Ambient Occlusion." The only things I'm changing are when, for eample, you click on a console such as Super NES, then it takes you to your list of Super NES roms. In the background of that list (behind the rom screenshot and the list itself) is where my custom background is. They're all there and working for the consoles. Just not for MAME or STEAM, since I couldn't find the option to do so. It's a shame, because the backgrounds I made are actually somewhat similar to the rest of the theme, and they blend in really well. (Ah yes, the magic of Photoshop.) Dazzle, where can I find the theme editor? MNMax, I'm actually trying to make a custom background for when you go to the MAME rom list, but the custom background won't change. It would represent MAME itself, and not the roms when highlighted, which is what "Custom Background" in "Advanced Emulator Setup" allowed me to do for the console emulators.
-
I've made custom backgrounds for my console menus (nes and genesis rom selections, etc) in GameEx, since Setup Wizard allows me to change that, under "Andanced Emulator Setup", and then "Custom Background", after I place the background in the appropriate folder. However, I didn't see that option for the MAME or STEAM GameEx menus. I couldn't find the option in Setup Wizard, when I look through the MAME and STEAM settings and configuration. I've made custom backgrounds for them, and would like them there with the rest, for consistency. I can't seem to find a way to do this. Is there something that I have overlooked?

If they are named exactly like the rom, does that mean these ads are for the roms or emulators, as far as the "TV advert path"?
-
The current GameEx supports this? Old commercials for the consoles? That's pretty sweet! I assume it would pop up when you highlight the console of choice. How would I go about getting that up and running?
-
I don't know if this was mentioned already, but wouldn't it be neat to feature commercials for the systems or games from when they were new? It'd be a wonderful trip down memory lane. Remember the Nintendo breakfast cereal and Captain N?

UPDATE: pSX won't play 2xtreme or 3xtreme because of the .ecm file format. Eh well, guess you can't have everything. As long as the pros outweigh the cons, which so far they do.
-
I just got pSX running, and it works like a charm. Didn't even need daemon tools. Thanks to hansolo77.
-
Oh ok lol. This was my first time using Sega cd on emulators. That command line works great. Thanks again.
-
I was using ePSXe but I'll look into pSX. Thanks man.

Does anybody know the command line in easy setup to load a sega cd rom through Kega Fusion? Right now, I have it as "Fusion.exe -scd -slowboot [DTLOADER-SCSI]". Not sure if that's right. When I click on a rom in the GameEx menu, the sega CD sysyem itself will start, but it goes to the "cd player" option, as if the sega cd doesn't have a cd in it, and I know I have my virtual drive set up.
-
At least I know how to fix it. That's the plus side. For now, I'm moving onto Sega CD.

I try to mount an image. It says "unable to mount image." I discover I have to open the .cue file in notepad and rename the command inside the file, so it matches the re-named .bin file or .ecm file. I do that, and try to mount the image again. Daemon tools says "mounting image" and freezes at that moment. I have to CTRL ALT DELETE to close it under "end process." Sometimes the daemon tools process still won't close under task manager. So I try to uninstall daemon tools, and it freezes half way through. I go to the website for Revo uninstaller, I click on the free version to download, and the file isn't there. So that option is out. I restart windows 7 into safe mode. THEN i can manually uninstall daemon tools. I go back to normal windows 7, I reinstall daemon tools, I drag and drop a different image to mount. Didn't work because I didn't rename the .cue file's command line. It worked for that rom. Then I try another... and Daemon tools freezes at "mounting image" AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! Uninstalling and reinstalling, even in safe mode, doesn't fix it. Seriously, sometimes I think why do I even bother trying to play PSX games on PC, because I've ran into one problem after another, and I'm sick of it!! If it's not GameEx, it's Daemon tools! It's always something!!!! Sorry for my rant, but i've had problems getting the PSX games up and running for a week, and when I finally get them running, daemon tools flips the bird! All because I renamed the roms. The rom filter wouldn't hide the bracket text that used to be in the file name, even though I enabled that option, so I had to rename the files. Apparently, renaming is a big no-no! UPDATE: I'll just have to rename the .bin files what they originally were. Seems to work that way. I apologize again for my ranting. It's just been one thing after another, all week. And I have a sinus infection. And I have to work 9 hours at Wal-Mart tomorrow.
-
I just wish this wasn't so tedious. It's like "what next"?
-
Just figured it out. Found it on youtube. I have to open the .cue files with notepad and rename the text to match the renamed .bin files. All of them...
-
Actually, this was in Daemon Tools Lite itself. Outside GameEx and outside ePSXe.
-
Originally i used the virtual drive loader plugin, so that the PSX images would be mounted onto daemon tools, and I could run PSX games through GameEx... right? Well, everything was working great, up until now. I went to play a game, and got that wierd bios and no game, which means something isn't working. I found out what it is. I try to mount an image in Daemon tools lite, and I get a message that says "unable to mount image." It does this for all of the .cue files. I didn't even change anything. It just suddenly stopped working. I've looked on google for any instructions on how to fix this, and found nothing. I'm really pissed.
