  1. Personally, I just put all my roms and images on the network share and install a seperate copy of gameex on my workstation and media center. Yes, I do have to maintain two different config files, but since the hardware is different anyway, it's not really a problem. I map out to the same drive letter on each system, so I only really need to change just a few settings between the config files... i.e. resolution mostly.
  2. Pretty much any of the Geforce 5000, 6000, and 7000 cards will work as well as most other DX8/DX9 cards out there. The only hardware that MCE is picky about is the PVR cards and TV Tuner cards. It will run without them though, so you don't really need them installed to run MCE. Microsoft has a list of MCE compatible hardware on their site, I just don't remember the exact address other than www.microsoft.com.
  3. MCE 2005 is XP professional. I would personally recommend XP pro over home any day. Pro offers some more security features and capabilities the home ever will and is worth the extra cash it costs. MCE2005 performs a default XP Pro install before it even loads up the MCE expansion files. The only downside the MCE itself is that you can join a domain during the install, but if you need to shift domain names, you will need to do a complete reinstall of your media center.
  4. I'm getting the same thing and I have a P4 3.2 with 1G of RAM. Running WinXP SP2. I figured it was one of the graphics settings, but haven't had time to tweak the new version yet.
  5. Not a problem... I run a few racks of servers and I'm always being asked to install programs that were not designed for 2003 on them. Hope everything works out though. Good luck on the exams... watch out for the AD design if you take it (I'm assuming your going for an MCSE) as it's a tough one.
  6. It may be the fact that Windows.net/2003 isn't designed for anything outside of a standard server role. Even though it is similar to Windows XP, the core configurations are not designed for multimedia or games. The memory handler itself is completely different from the home/pro versions of windows and that can cause issues. Even the .net framework can be different on a WIndows 2003 server as it's designed more for providing server side application services vs client services. Personally, I would only run software on a windows server that was designed for a windows server and leave it at that. Any server system that comes with the sound disabled as default should point that out.
  7. Logitech remote Dual Shock style controller. I forgot the exact name... Since I'm using this for consoles also, everything is compact and easy to get to. It's a remote controller also, so I can sit away from the TV so I don't burn my eyes out. 10 buttons on the controller, 2 analog sticks that also function as buttons when pressed, and a digital D-Pad... gaming heaven!
  8. Sorry about the delay, just got out of the hospital this morning after a nasty virus hit me 4 days ago . I'll try 3.64 when I have the strength to play with it. Thanks,
  9. I updated to 3.63 and now GameEx locks up when starting up. Sometimes I can make it to the initial menu, other times it will freeze on the opening screen. I'm using shared network drives for all my ROMS just in case this could be the problem... This is a hard crash... I can't even Ctrl-Alt-Del and end up having to reset the box. Any help would be appreciated. The last entry in my log file is: Testing Main Loop Once: Main Loop ran successfully Thanks, Steve
