Here's the latest: - Using the newest version of the script - Run Last Game causes the same thing to happen (the cmd appears and doesn't go away) - Also I forgot to mention this doesn't work when using the "use model 2" feature in GameEx, or when setting it up as its own emulator I'm assuming I should use an advanced config... any ideas on where I should start? Thanks so much for the help...

Returns to GameEx. If then I quit GameEx I can see that a cmd.exe is open. Once I close that, the game starts up. Where is runitgame.bat? How do I run that?

This is an interesting one... any help would be very appreciated! The Model 2 emulator has an ability to run scripts. Someone has written an excellent script to enable lightguns to function better with this emulator. Here is the discussion with the scripts: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,104484.msg1287623.html#msg1287623 The way it works is that if the scripts are in the emulator's folders, when you pick a game with the Model 2 emulator, the script automatically calls an exe which runs, and then closes when complete. It's perfect... unless used with GameEx. So basically, the game doesn't load because it gets hung up on the exe called in the script. Any ideas how I can make this function? Thanks!

While the GameEx MAME screensaver is playing, occasionally I get a Windows 7 error message that reads, "Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program." The bummer is it "peeks through" when the screensaver switches from game to game. When I exit GameEx, there are sometimes 5 - 10 of these alerts stacked up I have to dismiss. Is there a way to hide these alerts?

I have a couple questions about the artwork auto-download feature in GameEx! I realize the new setup is pretty simple, so maybe I'm over-thinking, but I want to make sure I understand it right! There's nothing I could find in the documentation, so please help, thanks! 1.) What directories does it auto-download to? Does it simply download to the folders that are set in my GameEx configuration? 2.) Does it automatically "update" an asset if a new item is replaced on EmuMovies? For example, if they upload a "better" video with the same file name, is it automatically added to GameEx? 3.) I have a yearly subscription there so I have access to all of the files. Does it download the high quality MP4 files as default? How does it know which one is preferred? 4.) When I go into the MAME section it says, "Downloading MAME artwork" for a moment but then goes away. How do I know if it's done, or downloading? What I want to make sure of is it's not downloading a whole second set of files when I already have the whole set completed using the download service from EmuMovies (I have GameEx pointing to the directories created by the download service). Thanks so much for the clarification!

Never mind, solved! Setting bezel and crop in mame.ini but removing them from the command line options in GameEx fixed it!

Cabinets and HTPC Setups Running GameEx
Nightlife replied to David R Hilgendorf's topic in Gamer Rigs
Haha thanks! It's all black and white because it matches the style of my loft, which is very modern and monochrome. I have so many incredibly nice things to say about the cabinet quality, customer service, and general awesomeness of North Coast Custom arcades. Well-worth the premium price tag. If anyone is on the fence, hop on off and just make it happen. Totally amazing.- 363 replies

My ideal setup would be that mame defaults to using bezels and the view is set to crop. However, when I include the command line option of -bezel in the GameEx setup, it works but the lame side-effect is that the screensaver does not show the cool GameEx bezel with game info. Is there a way to set this default view but keep the cool GameEx info bezel when running the screensaver?

BRILLIANT!!!!! This worked!!!! THANKS TOM!!!!!!!!! For the record, this is to make a really amazing and wonderful .map file for Visual Pinball. The quirky issue with VP is that there are two exe's, one for VP8 files and one for VP9 files, and the tables only work with the exe they are created for. On top of that, there are often 3-4 versions of a table (sometimes from different authors, some widescreen, some are mods, etc.) of which no table is *better* than the others, they're just different. I like my setup clean, so I only want one version (my fav) for each table in my game list. So, I'm creating a map files for VP8 and VP9 that contain ALL tables from head-to-toe BUT in GameEX it only shows one candidate if there are multiple ones (the others are disabled using this "|" trick), and if you want to switch the table, you simply modify the map file to make it easy for people to pick swap in their favorite ones. Using the GameEx group feature to join VP8 and VP9 + these custom map files should make the most up-to-date and efficient way of having a clean and awesome VP setup!

Darn... tried ; : # <!-- and anything else I could think of, no love. No worries...

Haha yeah I know that... But I want to be able to keep a handful of games because I toggle them on/off occasionally. I know, like I said, weird request. Possible?
-
Subject line says it all! Very random question, I know. I swear I have my reasons! Is it possible to comment out a line in a .map file, so the game does not show up in GameEx?
-
Double-confirmed! This works! THANKS!!!!!!
-
Yeppppp works just fine...

No love... tried setting the resolution to various ones, left it unspecified, toggled my display settings to match, tried without the -fullscreen... nothing working. I do have the rom directory inside the emulator's directory.
-
Having no luck. Using the exact command from above: Supermodel.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -res=1024,768 -fullscreen Games won't run, just goes back to GameEX. Can someone take a look at my log and see what I'm doing wrong? Thanks! log.txt

I use a Mac mini running XP in boot camp. It's super-compact, stays cool, and looks great. Runs all emulators I've thrown at it juuuuust fine (but not ideal for hardcore PC gaming... e.g., runs SFIV like poo). Runs Dreamcast and PSX emulators just fine! EDIT: Oh, and you can get a mini DisplayPort to HDMI converter for like $10 that lets you use HDMI with it to plug into any HDTV.

This worked for me, and I also had to change LoadDefaultImage=0 to LoadDefaultImage=1

Cabinets and HTPC Setups Running GameEx
Nightlife replied to David R Hilgendorf's topic in Gamer Rigs
I've finally finished my home theater retrogaming setup, and figured I'd post it 'cause it's pretty unique from the other stuff that's out there! - Computer is a 2.0GHz Mac mini running XP Performance Edition via boot camp. - Display is a Panasonic PT-AE1000U HD projector projecting a 100" 1080p image. - Software is the venerable GameEx with the default theme with a few custom images here and there. - Front end and games are controlled either with the X-Arcade Tank Stick and/or the Logitech wireless PS2 controllers (via PS2 to USB adapters). - Puppy is a hound dog named Anakin who loves to nap while others play games! And, of course, it plays HD movies, all current consoles, and watches TV. But who cares about that stuff, right?? Hope you like it!- 363 replies

I did map the GameEx default keyboard commands to custom ones. Is that what you mean?
-
Here's a random one. I'm using Eventghost ( http://www.eventghost.org/ ) to map the IR commands of my universal remote to keystrokes. So, when I push *UP* on my remote control, the up arrow key on the keyboard is simulated being pressed. Works great in Windows Explorer but as soon as I get into GameEx and try it... nada. Any thoughts as to why GameEx can't respond to these virtual commands?
-
No worries. Looks like using up/down to pick a letter works fine. Not as quick, but does the trick!

When I put any value in the field for "Launch Before," "Also Launch," or "Launch After" under my Visual Pinball emulator, save, and exit AdvancedConfig, when I go back to it everything I entered has disappeared... I'm simply trying to launch an exe before Visual Pinball starts and one when it ends... thoughts?

While we're on the subject... Any way of using a joystick to do a game search under that menu option? Is there a virtual keyboard pop-up option somewhere I can't find? If not, this may get added to the feature request thread real fast. Would be very cool to have...
