You can already use video backgrounds in GameEx. You will need to convert the YouTube video to avi or mpeg first but I believe there are tools on the web which can do this.

Haven't tried it, but it looks like it may be possible to save videos using savevid.com. The conversion would require a second step and be dependent on what format that website saved it in.

already have a tool for this. When I find videos that Emumovies doesn't have, I download them and convert them to mpg on the fly. Don't want to use them as backgrounds but have a small video under the emulator image rinning the videos as i scroll each emulator. Look at how video's work. When you scroll thru your available movies , you see a preview playing of the movie you are currently scrolled to

I don't remember exactly what Tom said, but as I recall, the video goes in the same directory where the emu icons are. I think you name them the same as the png. I haven't tried it since I don't have any videos that would be appropriate.

Thanks guys. Does work as Tom stated. Only wanted to have 2 screens on the screen at a time. One showing the emulator and one showing the video of games playing on that system. Best videos are found by serching for 100 games in 10 minutes.

I recently set up a touchscreen system which I use to play games like Bejeweled, Scrabble, and Bookworm. I wanted to have attract mode only run the games that I installed but that didn't work. I installed MAME and got that to work, then I set it to play from the emulaters so that it would play both MAME and the PC Apps. My feature request is to make it so that you can specify to play MAME or an emulater for attract mode and also specify the emulater. I would rather not have MAME on this machine since I don't use it on there.

Hit ~ to get the volume menu to pop up. - and + don't always work for some reason.

The previews are AVI files (I assume), which means that there may be a control in the codec to control the video volume.

Hi bkenobi,

Thanks for your reply, I take it the AVIs use the FFshow thing and so I would adjust that?

Thanks

You can change the text by going to "custom text" in the setup. I don't remember exactly what it's called, but if you use the setup wizard and search for "custom", you should see something that looks right. Also, don't forget to turn on the custom text feature after editing things to your liking!

Hi Brian,

Thanks for that, Have been using the set-up wizzard. after looking all the way through it and not been able to find any "Language" option I realised i might start gameex up and look in the configuration heading under "more games and programs " !! found language heading and altered to custom

still unsure of exactly how to acheive what I want to do, but at least thats definatly one step closer

any tips would be welcome

thanks -Rich

Sorry, the setup wizard is meant for typical installations, so it's somewhat limited on the features you can adjust (makes for less searching for noobies). The Advanced Configuration utility lets you adjust essentially everything (meant for more advanced tweaking). There's a couple super advanced things that require editing files directly, but generally you will find the setting in one of the standard tools.

IS COOL :) Just good to get some pointers -JOB DONE- My usa pac-man cocktail cab is now one more large step nearer compleation. Have had to figure out lots of stuff on the way ...hidding windows .. command line for daphnee setting up maps for ultra stick etc.. never posted here before so just glad to have any help.

- All the best -Rich.

If your using an ultratick 360, I hope you have discovered the plugin that switches map for you on the fly for Mame Games...

If not take a look at the program "Plugin Manager".

Hi, yes thanks for the pointer. I have used the ultra stick plug in, managed to get it to give me a table showing each game and whether it was 4-way 8-way analog etc. (which was very helpfull later) But it kept telling me that it hadn't initalised at start up of gameex -couldn't find what I was doing wrong ... so ended up creating 500 or so maps ( there are only 5 or so maps really - with the odd one like q-bert being a bit different) i gave each the name of the rom it was for . I then just put a command line to launch the map "[ROM].ugc" in the "Run on Launch" section of the advanced mame set-up part of the wizard. and another in the "Run on Exit" to tell it to go back to being 4-Way -so the menu can be used. Hell of a long way round I know ! But I only had to do it once & it always works. ...I guess i should have come here and asked where i was going wrong with it ..would probably have been easier.

PS would recomend the ultrastick 360 to any one considering using it. TOP PIECE OF KIT ! have got circular restrictor plate and stiffer spring. ...have given it months of ..."TESTING" and have no complaints (knew i would hate having pacman getting stuck in corners with an eight way stick and my fav games include hang-on and star wars so had to get some thing to play these.

3. Something that shuffles jukebox/media player playlists every time GamEX starts? I know there is a shuffle option, but my setup always seems to play the same set every time it starts.

The "Shuffle Playlist" shuffles the playlist, but plays the songs in the same order everytime GameEx starts.

The only way to "reshuffle" is to add/remove songs to the playlist.

Is there a way to make GameEx "reshuffle" the playlist every time it starts?

I had this problem a while back. I think I was able to fix it by deleting the data\playlist.txt file. Now that I have moved everything over to another PC the problem is back. I tried deleting the playlist.txt and the launch GameEx but it gets created again exactly as it was before it was deleted.

It is really annoying the same songs play in the same order every time. Even if you go and shuffle the play list, if you exit GameEx and start it up it goes back to the previous playlist order. I get "Song for a Future Generation" by the The B-52's stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

I am starting to use the Zip support option in the emulator configs with CD based games. I am hoping to save disk space and keep things organized by having the multiple files that usually make up a single game in one zip file.

For smaller zipped ROMs when selecting a game to launch, it usually starts up the emulator very quickly. For these larger CD based games it can take between 10 to 20 seconds to extract the files before the emulator finally launches. To the user it is not clear what is going on at that point.

Can you add a please wait dialogue or progress bar while the file is extracted?

Thanks!

I cant duplicate this, it works fine for me both using wmp and file tag mode and different playlists in WMP Mode. Can you post your log and gameex.ini and ill take a look. I think there was a problem in an earlier version of GameEx like this, but in my tests its working fine for me.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. In fact, sometimes gameex itself stops responding and Vista decides it is time I should close it. I ended up extracting all the ISO's for the Dreamcast and lost 51 gigs of space :(

Good idea. Ill try to add the standard GameEx please wait animation for unzipping in the next release.

Unfortunatly, Vista may still think Gameex has stopped responding even with this. It normally open happens though with playing in windowed mode and moving things around. Blame MS for that not me ;)
