I notice now that this is actually happening with several but not all emulators. All TV Adverts for both working and non working emulators were downloaded from the same source: EmuMovies. All TV advert files for both working and non working emulators play ok outside GameEx

I have confirmed this has nothing to do with the data.db3 file by copying a data.db3 file from a fresh install of GameEx. I have confirmed that this does have to do with the number of ROMS in the ROMS directory. I confirmed this with the following steps An emulator that was having this issue: Bally Astrocade has 26 roms in the roms folder After overriting the data.db3 file with the one from the fresh GameEx install I went into GameEx All the favorites and last played were gone for all emulators I selected Bally Astrocade from the emulated games list and launched a game After exiting the game I verified the game was not displaying above the list of Astrocade games I exited GameEx I added 112 roms from another emulator into the same directory as the Astrocade roms folder I went back into GameEx selected Bally Astrocade from the emulated games list and there was the last played game at the top of the list. I did not need to launch it. It was already there. I exited GameEx deleted the 112 roms from the other emulator, leaving the original 26 Astrocade roms in the roms folder I went back into GameEx. The last played was missing from above the top of the Astrocade games list again Thinking it was a theme issue I tried several different themes and all of them have the same issue I did not try to see how many roms it would take to make the last played show up at the top of the list. I don't know if this is by design or if this is a bug.

Good idea nullPointer. Per your suggestion I just did that test. The video advert file that would not play from one emulator was copied to the other emulator and renamed and it played! More info: This issue is happening on two computers. On another computer TV Ads work for other emulators but not for Atari Lynx [emulator_67] . The two computers both have drive X: mapped to a share with all emulator content. X:\ROMS and X:\assets. Both have the same gameex.ini. Forgot to mention that I have already tried to delete the cache files for emulator_67 Even more info: This is happening on more than just one emulator. From my config this issue is also happening with: Atari Jaguar Matell Intellivision Nintendo Game Boy Nintendo Game Boy Color Nintendo Virtual Boy Sega Game Gear

For other emulators in my configuration TV Advert videos do play. For one emulator all TV Adverts do not play. A blank screen displays for a second and returns to the menu without playing. I have verified the following: TVAdPath is valid The video file plays outside of GameEx when double clicking on the video file To eliminate a codec issue, I copied a TV ad video file from another emulator that does play to the TVAdPath directory for the emulator that does not play. I made sure the name of the file that does play from the other emulator was renamed to match the name of the file that did not play. I did not change the extension of the files when renaming. The files are all .mp4. The same file that plays successfully for the other emulator does not play for this emulator! I have attached the log and config. The emulator that is having the issue playing TV Adverts is [emulator_67] Atari Lynx GameEx_ini_.txt log.txt

Here is my data.db3. Thanks DATA.zip

I have noticed the same issue. Most emulators I have setup show the last played above the list of games. There are a few emulators that do not show the last played games. Toggling the setting "Show Last Played" in the setup wizard to On/Off does have the effect of whether the last played game shows up in the main menu under "Last Played" but does not control whether it shows up above the list of games in the emulated games section. After looking at all the emulators that are having this issue I found one thing in common they have 26 or less roms in the roms directory. So does this setting only work if there are a certain number of roms in the roms folder?

After searching around a bit I answered my last question ... off topic a bit but the search on the forum does not work well. If you try to search for an exact phrase with quotes it ignores this and returns result for each word in the phrase returning too many results making it very difficult to find exactly what you are looking for.... It seems that there are some feature requests to support more custom art paths than 5. So I'll through in my request too. Now with so many different kinds of art available on EmuMovies, it seems like we could use more than 5 additional paths. Thanks

Sorry, my original post was confusing. I am using the setup wizard it is working great. I am looking for paths that the wizard doesn't have. It looks like it does have VideoSnapPath=. The only ones I have found so far that are not in the setup wizard is TVAdPath= (I incorrectly called this TVAdvert= in my original post.) Next question. Some of the CustomArtPath (s) I have setup in the GameEx.ini are not showing up. I think I have figured out why. It looks like it supports up to 5 CustomArtPath (s) and ignores any beyond. Can you confirm? Thanks

I have had GameEx setup for a while. I am in the process of setting up everything from scratch. I thought I would take advantage of as many of the 'recent' standards, defaults plugins etc. to try to make things easier to maintain. For one of the thing I am re organizing all of the asset folders. The nice thing is that GameEx can be configured to support any directory structure you prefer. However, I thought instead I would try to go with a default or standard as I could. Mainly The Setup Wizard seems to organize as follows: Assets System Name Snaps Titles etc. Second System Name Snaps Titles etc. I am trying to edit the GameEx.ini and pre populate all of the possible asset paths for each system then I can copy the files I have into the appropriate directories and add more as I acquire them. Through various posts, I have noticed a few 'new' paths such as VideoSnapPath= and TVAdvert=. Is there a complete list of all of them? I want to minimize as many CustomArtName paths as possible. Thanks

Using GameEx in HTPC type case connected to my main TV in the living room. Using Logitech wireless game pads. Use it for Games mostly and some of the multimedia features as well.

This may be of interest here since many run GameEx on systems running Windows Media Center and thinking of upgrading to Windows 8. Windows 8 no longer includes Media Center. Instead it is a seperate add-on that you must purchase. For a limited time, get Windows 8 Media Center Pack for free http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/feature-packs

I have noticed this issue occasionally as well

Thanks for creating this utility. It looks pretty cool. I ran into a few issues when I started to use it. It seems like it recognizes .PNG files as videos instead of snaps when determining which ones already exist. Update: this is only happening on one emulator so far that I can see, the rest are working. It doesn't seem to recognize .MP4 files as video files. Update: this is happening for the same emulator as above and seems to be working correctly on others For multiple entries in the emulator section, there is blank under the #roms column. This doesn't seem to have anything to do with file extension as far as I can tell. Most are zips in my case. There are emulators that have ROMs in zips that do have a number uner the #ROMs column. Update: this seems to be the main issue, for some emulator configs it is not detecting either the existing rom, snap or the video files correctly Once again thanks for creating the utility. Just wanted to mention these items for your next version perhaps.

I am trying to create snaps for an emulator. There is a command in the launchbefore to mount the CD using Daemon Tools The games do not start successfully during create snaps but launch correctly otherwise. It looks like a command in Launchbefore setting for an emulator does not get executed during the create snaps feature. Is this by design?

That's what I was not sure about. Thanks for the info.

First I want to point out that I just uploaded a loader that will support loading Dreamcast ROMs using nullDC for multiple regions from one rom directory and one emulator entry in GameEx. Check it out over at the pinned topic: User Submitted Configs, Map Files, Wrappers and Databases (Uploads) I am looking to resolve the following minor issue: ROMs are named using TOSEC. The Merge Sets is set to “Yes.” The ROMs named (JP) and (US) in the name have the correct region flag icon to the left of the rom name. The ROMs with (PAL) in the name do not have any region flag icon. Would it not make sense to display the icon for the European region if the rom name contains (PAL)? I’ve noticed an icon like this for another system/ROM set. If so I will submit it as a feature request. I understand that the TOSEC naming convention has many components to the name so I don’t know if this would cause conflict with other sets/naming conventions for specific European countries/languages.

For my 100th post I am providing a launcher for nullDC. The purpose is to support loading ROMs from multiple regions from one ROMPATH with one emulator entry in GameEx. This will launch nullDC using one of three nullDC.cfg files. Each cfg file is configured to support a region. It detects the correct region by looking for strings in file names located in the extracted files in the ROMPATH dir. It then copies the correct cfg file containing the matching region setting to the root of the nullDC folder. Requirements: ROMs for all three regions must be in the same folder ROMs must be zipped (feature available only to registered GameEx versions) ROMs named using TOSEC naming convention or names contain “(PAL)”, “(US)” or “(JP)” nullDC is already working correctly for one of the regions Setting it up: Copy the NullDCRegionLoader.txt file attached to this post to the root of the nullDC folder and rename it to NullDCRegionLoader.bat Make three copies of the current working nullDC.cfg file located in the root of the nullDC folder. The files should be named: nullDC_USA.cfg nullDC_JAP.cfg nullDC_EUR.cfg Edit each of these files and change the Dreamcast.Region setting as follows: nullDC_USA.cfg Dreamcast.Region=1 nullDC_JAP.cfg Dreamcast.Region=0 nullDC_EUR.cfg Dreamcast.Region=2 In the emulator config for nullDC in GameEx modify the LaunchBefore setting. Add the following line in the LaunchBefore setting: call "NullDCRegionLoader.bat" "[ROMPATH]" NullDCRegionLoader.txt

That is awesome! Thanks Tom!

I suggest using mednafen too. It is a great multi system emulator.

Don't forget search where you can have multiple platform versions. When viewing details of a game, other systems names are listed when a matching game is found. An icon would be a nice addition there too.

I am continuing with GameBase, now trying GameBase Amiga. So far things are working well. I have a question about GameBase Amiga. The GameBase database lists many Games. There are three sets of games GameBase, SPS, and WHDLoad. Some of the games listed have a match in the GameBase set and will launch in the GameBase interface and GameEx. Some of the games are not in the GameBase set but are in the Extras\SPS and or Extras\WHDLoad set. Clicking on Extras in the GameBase interface, you can launch either the SPS or WHDLoad copy of the game if it exists In GameEx there doesnâ??t seem to be a way to launch any WHDLoad or SPS games that are in the Extras. You can see other Extra content such as Instructions, Hints Tips, Boxscan just not WHDLoad or SPS games. Any suggestions on getting the WHDLoad and SPS sets working?

I had tried renaming the folder but did not try renaming the database. Renaming both the folder and the database worked! Also cleared out the splash folder and put in the logo I wanted in the splash folder. That is worked as well. Thanks!

I just configured GameBase with GameBase64. Next I configured it in GameEx. The integration is elegantly simple: just specify the GameBase directory and select how the [Esc] key should work globally. Once that is configured all the extras snaps, music, docs etc. appear seamlessly in GameEx. Great job on the GameBase integration! I might give GameBase Amiga a try, I am currently using WinUAE Loader. I would like to have an option to change the way GameBase 64 shows up in the Emulated Games list. It currently shows up as 'GBC_v08'. All the rest of the systems have the name of the system and an image of the system hardware and a random snapshot slideshow from the games it supports. I would like to have the option to have it appear as 'Commodore 64' and show a picture of the Commodore 64 system at least. The random screenshots would be even better. This would make it appear completely seamless from the Emulated Games list. Is there a workaround for the system name? The rest of this request may be more of a feature request.

These two topics may be helpful. I have been planning to give this a try as well so if you find anything additional that may be useful please share: http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=5103 http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=3&view=findpost&p=57215
