I built mame controller with built-in computer. I have an i-pac, 2 ultrasticks, spinner from ultimarc as well. 6 buttons for each stick. 1up and 2up buttons. i use the shift feature on the i-pac for needed input. all the sticks are controlled via USB and the buttons are plugged into i-pac and not the sticks.

I think that is all u need to know.

so, my problem is that I can't use the sticks for any games. and i don't believe the spinner works either. tho the sticks and spinner work in the 0S which is XP.

Can anyone shed some light on this and how gameex knows which ultrastick cfg to download for each game?

Thanks. BTW, I just bought gameex, i feel good now. ;)

Is this a GameEx problem or how you have MAME set up. You should make sure things work outside of GameEx first. Once everything is working as you want it, you can take the next step to get it up and running from the front end.

I guess that is the issue as well. I do not know where the problem lies.

What do u mean by "work outside of GameEx"? All the inputs work in the OS.

I think he was seeking clarification. If I understand correctly, you can use the ipac directly with whatever version of MAME you are using or "outside of GameEx." It is using it "inside" GameEx that you are not able to use the sticks.

withing gameex\config path you can find the gameex.ini file. Under the gameex\log path you can find the log.txt file. Pl;ease zip these together and upload here so we can take a closer look.

There should be an installation disc from ultimarc that has a config program, you use that to map out your buttons on the ipac to match up with the key presses from a keyboard, Go to the editor and select table view here you can map any button, stick, spinner, etc... to what ever key you want so for example i have P1 COIN set to number 5 keyboard which is a `coin in` in mame. Hope this helps.

that's not the issue. that is done.

anyway, I *think* that it is working now. But for some reason Arkanoid does not show up in the games list and I have set spinner games to show, so I can't try the spinner. I'll try Tempest tho, but I gotta get Arkanoid to show up.

Sounds like the initial issue you reported is resolved. If some ROMs are not showing, it could be a filter issue or the ROM is not compatible with the version of MAME that you are using. If you load MAME are you able to play Arkanoid? Is it only through GameEx you cannot play it?

Posted

You could add Arkanoid (arkaniod.zip) to the "don't filter these roms" list in GameEx's "Advanced MAME Config" setup on the Setup Wizard, and try to run it and see if it works if you're not vested in command-line stuff.

ok, so I tried cmd line for Arkanoid and I get errors. I recopied the file and downloaded one off the net, still no go.

arkanoid1_68705p3.ic14 NOT FOUND

arkanoid_mcu.ic14 NOT FOUND

arkanoid_68075p5.ic14 NOT FOUND

Anyone have any ideas? MAME v. .143

If by rectifying the issue, you mean to supply you with the ROMs, we do not do that nor ask that in these forums (If i am correct in that assumption, consider this a warning). I think you know what you must do to rectify that issue on your own! B)

Agreed that this sounds like the wrong ROM version for your version of MAME. If that is the case you'll probably want to audit the rest of your ROMS for your version of MAME (or alternately roll back your version of MAME). I'd be pretty surprised if Arkanoid was the only game affected by this.

I personally use clrmamepro for these purposes, but there are a few other choices out there. I'm sure another member can point you in the right direction if you'd rather use a different auditing program.

Here's the clrmamepro home page:

Please refer to the following forum post for tutorial links regarding clrmamepro:

You'll still need to update your ROMs (unless you roll back your version of MAME), but clrmamepro will at least tell you everything that needs fixing. It may even fix the problem altogether if it comes down to a simple naming conflict.

Good luck with everything!

I wouldn't dare ask for any roms. I have every one.

^^Well, sort of... *LOL*

So can we mark this thread as [RESOLVED] then?

I don't know why I don't get emails about replies when I am subscribed.

I came back here cause I updated to the new release of GameEx and now the joysticks don't work again. So frustrating.

This may be coincidence - can you confirm that the sticks are working when you use mame directly?

One thing you can check is in GameEx\PLUGINS there is a file called PlugInUltraStik.ini. Remove the # from the #Debug=true line and it should output a PlugInUltraStik.log file. See if it is producing any errors.

Posted

ok, tried the debug, nothing in the file.

tried running mame cmd line, joys still don't work. :(

all i did was mame.exe 1941.zip -joystick

is there a way to get the whole cmd line that GX uses?

Are you using a cut down version of XP? I noticed in your log file it says

Could Not Load Plugin: 7

Which I believe is the "Speak Game Name" plugin. I'm just wondering why it couldn't load the plugin. Try disabling it.

Perhaps you could try reinstalling the latest version of GameEx? It should not mess with your current settings.

Oh and this is probably a stupid question but you have you pressed "TAB" in MAME and selected "Input (General)" and made sure you have configured your joysticks correctly?

Posted

yes I am using a cut down version of xp.

I just did the update to the latest. would that not be the same as a re-install?

and yes, I have gone into the general and games config. Weird thing is, if i try to remap the joysticks, there is no input. i press enter to let it accept a new input, I will press joystick up and it doesn't receive the input but at the same time I can see the hi-lite bar moving.
