Hey guys,

I installed SNES9x and it works fine except that I can't get it to start in fullscreen mode. I click the display options tab and select fullscreen and it goes into fullscreen but it reverts to the old setting every time I start it up again. I'm sure I'm missing something simple here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I've looked in the conf file using wordpad and can see that fullscreen is obviously set to false. I tried changing it to true in the conf file but it won't let me save the file as the same file type. So in other words I can't figure out how to edit the conf file and save it.

There is another setting that is conflicting with it. I'm pretty sure I know what the setting is. I just downloaded this emulator and instead of doing it the gui, the command-line switch should be used. That way it will be universal to all users. Seems in the config for this in GameEx that the sendkeys is used. This is not necessary. This is why I don't use those configs.

Please try the following:

snes9x.exe -fullscreen "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

This was tested in Snes9x v1.53

As far as I know snes9x has always used the command line switch! Why would sendkeys be in there? That's crazy!

That did the trick. Thanks guys.

I had another question though. When I run the snes games there are a couple of numbers, a couple ones,a couple zeros and some semicolons I believe in the bottom left corner of the screen. Is there anyway to get those to go away? I have it set not to display the frame rates. I know that's not what these numbers are but I don't know what they are. Thanks again.

This is the ROM information.

Taken from the readme-windows.txt file:

Game Color System

-----------------

Snes9x displays the ROM information when a ROM is first loaded. Depending on the

colors used you can tell whether or not a ROM is a good working ROM, or if it's

been altered or is corrupted.

white the ROM should be a perfect working copy.

green the ROM is mode 1 interleaved.

orange the ROM is mode 2 interleaved.

aqua the ROM is Game Doctor 24M interleaved.

yellow the ROM has probably been altered. Either it's a translation, PD ROM,

hacked, or possibly a bad ROM. It may also be an overdumped ROM.

red the ROM is definitely hacked and that a proper version should be

exist. Some ROM Tools such as NSRT can also fix these ROMs.

When asking for help on the Snes9x forums, please list the color and CRC32 that

is displayed. This will help to find out what the problem is.

These colors do NOT signify whether a game will work or not. It is just a means

for reference so we can understand what may or may not be a problem. Most often

the problem with games that don't work it's because they are corrupt or are a

bad dump and should be redumped.

To not display this information, edit the following in the snes9x.conf file in the [settings] section:

Change from:

MessageDisplayTime        = 120

Change to:

MessageDisplayTime        = 0

I went into the config and changed that value like you suggested and like it says in the config but it did not get rid of the white numbers in the bottom left. At least you explained what they are. If I have to live with them its not a big deal. I also can't get the roms to boot without the menubar showing up. I tried changing that value in the config as well but it did not change anything. Is it possibly a Gameex configuration that I need to change for that emulator? Do I need to add another phrase following the exe location like I had to do to get fullscreen working?

Hmmmmm that was how I got it to work with my testings. It seems like your config is not being read by the emulator. I don't know at this point as that's how it works. For some reason yours is not. Maybe it's a permissions issue or something. I would have to see the behavior for myself and figure it out. This is an emulator I don't use. I'm just going off my testings and documentation. You're having a conflict somewhere. Perhaps meet me in chat sometime soon for real-time support. I may even suggest remote support which I help members with from time to time.

I think at this time it would be helpful to provide a copy of your gameex.ini and snes9x.ini files. You can export a copy of your snes9x.ini file by loading the Setup Wizard select Custom, then Emulator Selection. From there, click on the snes9x emulator in the Left column then on the Export button in the middle. Having these to review will help to rule-out any conflict with GameEx.

It is possible that you are butting against a permissions issue that is not allowing you to make the necessary change as fRequEnCy is suggesting.

I appreciate the assistance but I decided to switch to ZNESW since it seems to be much easier to use and thus far has not required me to go in and edit the config manually. The only question I had with this one is that when I select play game the emulator comes up with the menubar open to load or run. The game runs fine if I select run. The menubar goes away and everything but is there a way to get zsnes to run the game directly rather than having this intermediary step?

Thanks I have updated the config. If you discover any more mistakes in any of the configs please report them so they can be fixed for the default install. That way all users can benefit.

@MRE:

If you go into zsnes.cfg you can turn off the GUI. It's about 3/4 down the page. Just remember you'll have to turn it on again if you need to make any changes since it won't run by clicking the icon after this change.

After all that and you switch? :angry:

Next time I'll just suggest another emulator before downloading to troubleshoot for nothing. LOL. :P

Will do headkaze! I haven't looked through them as I've never used them. When ever I see something that could be handled better then I'll make the post. ;)
