Im now using LOGIN for myself any my kids on the cab and it works great, just 1 question is it possible to hide all but just the favorite menu ?? by this i mean the kids only play maybe 20 games across all the emulators installed is it possible to have a fuction or to make it so when they log on they are given just 1 screen with there favorites listed any nothing else , we all have to think like a kid would and they like it so they click there name and are presented with there list of games select and play Maybe if this is not possible it could added as a feature?, or if it is possible can you please detail how it would be done.

I will look into it a little deeper but may take some time. Not sure if what you want to do is possible through use of Custom Menus in conjunction with Advanced Config disabling unused features but can test and get back to ya.

Ian - Well, I have done some preliminary testing and this is what I have found.

Login doesn't play well with custom menus. If I have custom menus enabled (which I do), some of the disabled features still show as items in the list. I am not sure if this is a caching issue (doubtful) or just because of the fact that custom menus touches everything globally regardless (which I believe is most likely the case). It may play better with a vanilla setup (i.e., GameEx default menus).

Login does retain the theme selected for the logon ID. This worked flawlessly and kept the entirety of the theme selected for the test logon ID, including logos, layout, etc.

What I would like to see is something a little more mature in this feature that will allow full administrative control over what is displayed/enabled than what is available currently so that when setting up a more restricted profile, all one would need to do is select Enable or Disable for the functionality based upon the Administrator's Configuration as the template (regardless of vanilla or custom menus and the option to disable custom menus for a logon profile other than the Administrator's.

For example:

Feature Default John Susie

Enable Search Yes Yes No

Show Statistics Yes No No

Enable Auto GameEx Update Yes No No

Use Custom Menus Yes No Yes

Could utilize the drop-downs for multiple options under each feature as present in the Setup Wizard or Advanced Configuration in addition to emus listed separately for enable/disable to further secure access for each. Also would need to ensure each user has their own GameEx.ini, custom.ini and other configuration files that will be accessed as opposed to the system defaults. It appears that the configurations are setup to do just that in most cases. If this sounds good to you to include with your feature request, please feel free to submit under the feature requests thread in the Pinned and Hot Topics forum.

Hi Mike, thanks for the feedback,

Your idea of having drop downs for the options does seem a good idea, specially if you could select which emus you want enabled in each profile, have set up mine and the kids logins and have managed to delete quite a lot of games they dont play and add / delete games to favorites in each profile so that works well, themes is not a problem as they are happy with the gloss i use.

Glad you are able to get it to work to meet your needs! Are we OK to mark this resolved for you? I will submit the feature request for an expansion on the login feature.

RESOLVED Mike ! LOL...

Already summited a request and used some ( most ) of your words, lets hope Tom and the gang thing its a doable as i think a lot of people specially with kids would use this feature and would put it streets ahead of the rest of the front ends, although it is already, ive recomended it to loads of my mates are they r using it just for mame and a couple of other emus, and thanks to all the help ive had here ive been able to point them in the right direction.

Awesome! I appreciate seeing more join - always good to see more mates on board with GameEx! The more users the more it evolves as they contribute their enthusiasm and ideas and we all benefit as a result!
