So im not even sure if this is the right way to phrase this, but I was wondering if there was a way to have joysticks default to joystick 0 and joystick 1 in windows.

I have 2 regular controllers and 2 arcade joysticks. For some games, like mario, Id like to be abe to plug in the 2 controllers (wireless 360 controllers, if that helps) and have them default to player 1 and 2 inside my emulator (in this instance zsnes, but id like it across all my emulators). Then, if I play say street fighter, id plug in my 2 arcade sticks and have those default to joystick 0 and 1 inside windows so that they work inside the emulators without having to reconfigure every time. is this possible?

This sounds like an Xpadder question to me. Adultery and a few of the others are the real pros with using it so I will defer to them.

Yes it's gonna have to be xpadder. The reason is that if you launch your emu without your xbox wireless controllers on, it will lose the mapping (especially good to know if you're playing by yourself or view emus in the screensaver). You can map your emu controls to the keyboard and then use xpadder to map these keys to your controllers via LaunchBefore and LaunchAfter in GameEx.

I can help you through it if you like. :)

Ok, so I know how to set it up and all that, but how do I go about configuring the first controller i plug in to default to the profile that works for player one, if that makes sense? Then have the second controller i plug in work for player 2, etc.

The command line calls profiles in order:

Xpadder.exe controller1 controller2 /M

If only one controller is plugged in it only loads controller1 and if both are plugged in it loads both.
