I can't for the life of me get the update list option to come up in Gameex. I have disable update list set to NO in the advanced config but it does not come up when I go into GameEx. I know that I need to update my list to see any of my games but I can't figure it out. I know it has to be something simple as I have setup Gameex before successfully but I recently had to do a fresh install of GameEx because my computer was restarting everytime I tried to run a game. I have GameEx set to the default theme to make sure that it is not a problem with the Theme keeping it from showing up. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

On your MAME sub list, Update List should be the last option, after 4 player games, all mame games, not yet played, etc.

Well then I guess my problem is really that MAME does not come up on my start menu nor any of its subfolders. On the menu under games setting I have it set to put MAME on Start Page but it does not show up. It showed up on the emulated games list as a subfolder but with no subfolders of its own. I originally had two versions of MAME on here. One of them installed during the GameEx installation process as emulator 1 and the other one was still on here from the last install and in the emulator folder of GameEx. All MAME directories are mapped to the old one that I want to use. I went ahead and disabled the newly installed one in emulator one that I subsequently deleted from the EMulator folder.

Looks like it'ss time to post your GameEx log file and your GameEx.ini file! ;)

Having 2 copies off things running does cause problems a i can speak from experience, if it was me i would download the latest version of gameex copy all the things you wanna keep like artwork, roms, avis etc... in a draw called stored_for_gameex or simular then delete everything relating to gameex and install the fresh newer version, that should sort your problems out, would take a little to reconfigure but i think its worth it.

Thanks for your help so far guys. I actually figured out why MAME wasn't showing up by looking at my GameEx log file. It was because I didn't have the AdvanceMame.exe so GameEx was disabling MAME as a result. I downloaded AdvanceMame and adjusted the directory location and then MAME comes up fine. I now am able to update the list and see all of my MAME games.

I am still having a problem though. I can select any of my MAME games and select play game but when I do the screen goes black for a few seconds and then goes back to previous screen with the description of the game and the option to play it. I attached my latest log file. I'm not sure where the GameEx.ini file is located. Thanks once again for any further help you can offer.

The gameex.ini file is located in the \gameex\data path. You will need to open it in Notepad and save as a text file before uploading to the forum or zip it and upload. After making changes, you need to first audit your games in MAME, then Update list in GameEx. Try this first if you haven't already and repost your log file and gameex.ini file.

I went ahead and audited my roms in MAME and then updated my game list in GameEx and I am still encountering the same problem. I have attached an updated log and what I think is the gameex.ini file. Let me know if I attached the wrong config file. Thanks for your help.

My immediate question upon viewing this is...

Do you use an arcade monitor? Or a regular one?

Posted

It is currently just hooked up to a LCD computer monitor until I get it working, at which point I plan on hooking it up to a CRT TV.

The gameex.ini file is located under c:\gameex\data (or may be under c:\program files\gameex\data. Looks like you provided a Mame config file.

I thought AdvanceMAME was only for CRT monitors? No sense in using a mame build that uses such a low resolution when using MAMEUI is probably better for your setup.

AdvanceMAME is for real arcade monitors. ;)

Per the site "is a port of the MAMEâ?¢ and MESS emulators for Arcade Monitors and TVs but also for normal PC Monitors." Not usre I would use it since it does not seem to be quite so up-to-date as normal MAME. I would probably disable this in the configuration settings.

Well I tried disabling AdvanceMAME and instead of the screen just going black for a few seconds when I tried to start a game my PC restarted and said it was recovering from a blue screen error. I could be ultimately dealing with a PC problem here but the only time this computer has any problems is when I tried to load a rom directly from MAME or from GameEx. I will try and locate the correct .ini file and post that soon.

You may be right if you are encountering in both MAME and GameEx. Have you had the BSOD occur with any other programs? Recently updated any drivers (Sound, display, etc.)? Unless you are aware of any specific PC issues, you may want to try installing the latest display and sound drivers for your system.

Wait a sec... you get a blue screen crash when you run games from MAMEui too did ya say? Gotta be either video card driver problems or something to do with resolution/refresh rates that won't work with your monitor.

Was your blue screen IRQ_LESS_THAN_OR_NOT_EQUAL?

.:edit:. Dang, Drac! Pretty fast fingers you got there! ;)

LOL! That's a first! I have never, EVER been accused of being fast at anything!
