Hi all,

I just purchased GameEx, and I must say that it is a really nice, polished product. I hope the great work continues.

I have mame in 2 devices in my house. My widescreen in the living room (perfect for GameEx) and a dedicated cab. In my cab, I'm using the groovemame linux live CD and it's using advmenu as a front end. I saw where GameEX can create .mng files?? That would be perfect for my cab where .mng files are the only video files supported. I have downloaded crashtest's files from PD, but I'd like to generate the rest to my 0.142 rom set.

Is this still possible from GameEX? I tried to make the remainders Saturday night and let it run about 26 hours and I had seen that it started over when I saw it running the game 005 again. So I stopped the program (hold ESC) and looked for the videos. My hard drive appeared to have been filled with several gig's of new files, but I never found them. I searched in the GameEX\demo\videos section and the assets\videos section with no luck. I even searched MyVideos...Once I rebooted, my hard drive space went back to the same size before the process began.

What did I do wrong in my attempt?

I might suggest looking to sites such as emumovies.com where you can find quite a few avi and flv video snaps for a reasonable contribution. I am certain that there are plenty of open source Linux and Windows conversion programs that will allow you to easily convert these to the mng format you need for your cab.

Hi,

Creating MNG files for MAME is no longer possible with GameEx and recent versions of MAME. MAME got changes a little. Sorry.

So is it just MAME that is keeping GameEx from doing it or has both programs changed? If GameEx is still capable, does anybody know what version was last known to successfully create .mng's

I think that GameEx was able to "key into" the features once supported by MAME to create MNG files. Since I have never used the feature in the past, I couldn't tell you what version of MAME changed this (may be in the MAMEDev revision histories on their website somewhere). I still think your best option may be to obtain the files you need and convert to the format you need on the cab.

^+1 for Draco's suggestion. It'll save you time and the EmuMovies snaps are of the highest quality.
