Hi I have got an arcade machine with mame gameex software, with the machine controls plugged in it doesn't allow us to put credits on to play the games. With a keyboard plugged in it seems to work fine. Am new to this so would appreciate any help.

Thanks

Do you have a key mapped to the credit key? (I think it's 5?)

Welcome to the forums! Can you give us more details about your machine? What kind of controls does it have? How are they connected? Is a keyboard required for them to work? Things like this will help us narrow it down.

Hi mate the controls on the machine are wired into a small circuit board which has a cable coming from it that goes into the keyboard port on the pc. It used to work by pressing start and enter to get credits, now nothing happens it just says insert credits. When a keyboard is plugged in you can add credits by pressing button 5, but as soon as you plug the other controls back in so you can play the arcade machine properly a screen comes up saying tilt then it comes back on saying insert credits.

Thanks guys

Change the key binding in MAME by pressing tab in a game. Select controls, then find the option to change insert coin from 5 to your key combo.

Can I do all that off the keyboard?? Or will I have to press tab on the keyboard the plug the machine controls back in ??

Your setup is puzzling... I think MAME supports multiple keyboards, so couldn't you use a USB keyboard to press tab and press the keys you want to assign on the other one?

I've basically got an arcade machine with a pc tower in the bottom a pc screen behind the glass, the controls are proper arcade machine controls. The cable from the controls goes into a little circuit board then there's a cable coming from that that you plug into the keyboard port on the mobo. With the arcade machine controls plugged in it won't let us add credits which it used to do by pressing select and enter. With a normal keyboard plugged in by pressing number 5 I can add credits, I do this but as soon as I put the arcade machine controls so I can play it with the analogue sticks etc a screen comes up saying tilt then it just goes back to the game screen saying insert credits?

Is that circuit board you speak of an iPac or did you rig something up?

Hi my tab button isnt letting me edit my controls have read an faq and it says delete default.cfg but cannot find it anywhere?

Can someone point me in the right direction??

Posted

Hmm what was the FAQ from? Can you post it?

Also, be prepared to have to remap all your controls after you set the MAME controls back to default if they don't use the default controls already (which they must not because the credits button's not working).

PS: Does your "circuit board" look anything like this:

ipac2_diag.jpg

Or this:

ipac_old.jpg

If not, could you maybe take a pic and post it? Knowing your hardware will be key to fixing this issue.

default.cfg is located in the cfg folder of your MAME install.

I go into gameex then cfg and its not in there, I have no mame folder with cfg in there?

I can be found in the chat room if you want real-time support. We can try to narrow things down. Chat can be found on the tab on top of the forums.

Probably much of the time. If you require real-time support, you may want to send Frequency a message by clicking on his name and then clicking on the "Send me a message" link to ask him what dates/times he may have available. Keep in mind that he is in US Mountain Daylight Time when trying to coordinate a time with him to meet with you in chat.

Is the chat room normally empty??

Pretty much so. I wish it was used more. A lot more! I'm never in there unless I offer real-time support in which we get things started. I usually just offer remote assistance at that point to troubleshoot just to fix it quickly. I guess the best solution would be to do as Draco1962 suggested and PM me and we can set up a time. Or you can continue here in the forums but looks like you've spend enough time on this. ;)

That time would be better spent playing MAME anyways right? ;)

Well for some it would I guess. I don't play MAME! I don't think I've actually sat there and played a game all the way through. LOL. For some it would be to move onto setting up the next emulator. For me, it's just getting something to work. ;)
