Hi guys,

Im having difficulty in getting my games running smoothly - (GameEx and MAME).

I am running Win7 64bit with a dual core processor and AMD 5450 gfx card, so plently of power for most games!

I have tried both the 32bit and 64bit version of the command line MAME.

If I enable -triplebuffer the sound keeps repeating/stuttering bits and and is extreemly annoying, however the video is smooth. I dont see how this can be a performance issue as Im talking about very basic old games here like Ghosts&Goblins etc.

If I enable -syncrefresh the exact same thing happens as above.

If I enable -noswitches and/or -vsync the games refuse to run alltogether.

Anyone got any ideas whats goin on here?

Cheers

Nat.

Sound stuttering? That can't be a good sign... -triplebuffer has always been a nightmare. I don't use this in my command line anymore. I also specify Direct3d in my command line... -d3d Not sure if that will help you out at all. You may wanna try taking a peek at your MAME INI and see if the audio latency buffer is enabled. I think it's way at the bottom.

Triple buffer is no good.I have triplebuffer off, vsync off,but i have prescale set at 2,that will smooth out the rough edges on some games.I dont use a CL,I just have these options set in my mame ini

Is your direct x up to date? also in your ini, make sure you are using direct 3d version 9,not 8

That kinda sounds like a video card problem.the wind is blowing,so maybe there is a video card driver problem.good ol ATI! :P

Ahh you'll have to make one from the command line.

mame.exe -createconfig I think is what you would pass.

This information may not help you personally but I'll put it forward anyway.

I run on a British PAL TV set, and I like to have V-snyc on for most games (except pac-man, galaga, etc.)

I get bad sync / sound stutter unless I set my ATi video card to output in the M/NTSC signal format, then it's just fine.
