Does anyone have, or know where I can get, mpg or avi intro videos for the various consoles? I am falling in love with the animated video support in GameEx for games and title screens and I only have the Mame and Daphne ones that Tom provided.

Alternatively, if you have ANY videos at 320x240 or 640x480 resolution that have animated console systems or game company logos in them I would be willing to edit them down to a format useful in GameEx.

Thanks,

Dave

I also would love to find some really suitable videos. I'm considering using the VIVO on my pc to capture some output from some of my older systems that I have floating around. I will post up any such videos once done.

Tom, I tried making some videos in mpeg-2 format, I have the codecs installed and they play in WMP, but they don't play in GameEx. Do the avi/mpg files have to be a specific encoding, or a specific resolution or something?

I would like to encode in MPEG-2 (mpg) or MPEG-4 (xvid/avi) if supported

Some of the videos I downloaded to use were in Quicktime (mov) and Windows Media (wmv) as well, but I don't see that you support these at all. Is there a reason they aren't supported even though they should work if the codecs are installed?

I captured a video using SnagIt with the Microsoft Video 1 codec as an avi, and that works fine. Not sure of the resolution, but it would be whatever Narc opens to in a window by default (sorry I deleted it as I was just testing it out). The video would want to be converted to mpg though as it was 20mbs+ for a few secs as avi.

Regarding the videos of systems, I was thinking of doing the same and capturing videos of each systems loadup/bios screen - not sure if they're all shown in the emus, but I know some are, or can be loaded. Or for like N64, where there's a different N64 logo on some of the games I thought I'd just find the most generic one - I can only remember the Conker's Bad Fur Day one where Conker chainsaws the N64 logo in half and replaces it with the Rare logo, but anyway.

Also thought of trying to find 3d models of each console and animate each one in the order I have them in gameEx so each console would replace the previous, but of course if I changed the order, it would mess things up - plus I highly doubt I could find 3d models of each console, let alone even one console, I certainly wouldn't attempt creating 3d models myself :D - would look cool though (if anyone else wants to do it ;)).

Yeah, I looked at doing logo screens from the systems themselves. Most emulators don't easily support avi capture (or only via command line) and I thought the output would be kind of low rent anyway. So I downloaded a bunch of TV commercials for each system, some are pretty good like GBA. I got a pinball avi that works, but most of the rest needed to be edited or were in the wrong format and I can't get the MPEG-2 edited/converted versions to work yet.

I re-encoded one of them in MPEG-1 and it worked. Apparently just any old mpg is not good enough for GameEx...

When I am done I will post my console mpg package for everyone. I have the following mpg files working now: mame, daphne (DL), Pinball, Turbo16, Genesis, SegaCD, MasterSystem, GBA (great), NES, SNES, N64 (not great), PSX (not great), 2600 (not great).

I can't figure out how to get the audio to play for these logo mpg files though.

Tom?

Commercials is a great idea. Hehehe, 80's consoles ads must be pretty funny seeing em now. That's cool about the mpgs working, and your mpg package would be great.

yeah, the 80's ads are almost hilarious. Some of the Genesis ads are SO dorky it's funny, I found one that was given the moniker "dorks love Genesis" haha, the actors are the biggest geeks ever. That seemed to be a trend with games ads in the late 80's, though I blame the advertising industry for not understanding the market. In the 2600/NES/SMS days there was a lot of focus in the "family" quality of gaming, often showing 30-something dads playing with, or watching, their 10 year old kids play. I don't really remember ever playing games with my parents. My how the industry has matured...

David, cheers for the ads - yeah the Atari one is pretty funny/cheesy. And also the "Nintendon't" genesis one :D

Found some Commordore ones - the C64 Australian ads are pretty funny - they even have a song on them (on the waterslide one): "Are you keeping up with the commodore? Cos the Commodore is keeping up with you" hehe - the funny thing is though that I can remember hearing that song when I was a kid (I'm from Australia)...
