Hello all,

Tried searching for this with no success...

When I start GameEx the cursor defaults to the second item in my main menu list. This happens regardless of whether I am using custom menus.

For Example, if my main menu list starts as such:

Mame

Music

Karaoke

When GameEx loads the cursor would default to Music (second item). If you could see the first item, this wouldn't be a big deal, but the first item is hidden above, and it requires scrolling up to even know that it is there.

Any ideas? (gameex.ini attached)

Thanks!

Brendan

My driving cab does the same thing (and has for as long as I can remember). I asked about this a few years ago, but since it's not a critical thing, I never pushed that hard. I have a custom menu setup and it seems to select second item in the list with the first item being hidden. It would be nice if this were resolved, though!

Just out of curiosity, does your initial screen hold all your options or do you normally have to scroll to see everything? Are you two running the same resolution?

This is very similar to an issue that I have with the game list (I see it in all versions since I started to use GameEx). For example, suppose I have:

Game A

Game B

Game C

Etc...

If I scroll down to the the list and select the last item (I mean the last visible item at the moment), go to the game info and run the game, and then return to the game list, I often find that the game highlighted is the previous one: in the example above, if I select Game C, run the game and then return to the game list, I often find Game B highlighted, as if I had chosen that item.

As bkenobi said this isn't a critical thing, I write here just to say that there could be a common problem around.

I have this same thing happening.

I am using custom menu settings and have only 4 listings, which gameEX always starts on the second on the list, and the first is not seen until you move cursor back up to see it.

So this problem is reserved solely to custom lists? Sounds like a bug to me.

Just as another data point, I run custom menus but do NOT see this behavior... I have 11 items in my first menu, but only show the first 6, with the first one always selected at startup.

I don't believe it to be a bug to be honest. I notice that if I am in windowed mode and doing things in other windows, where my mouse is relative to my GameEx window sometimes determines where the cursor focus lands should focus be drawn to that window. I also run custom menus and do not see this behavior when in fullscreen and only seldom in windowed.

Thanks for all the input.

Let me address some of the issues:

Adultery: No, the issue is not reserved to custom lists. This happens to me regardless of whether I use custom lists.

Secondly, the problem persists even when there are less items on the screen than space to fit them. So even if you can see all items without scrolling, the first item is still hidden. (I am running 1360x768) This is true for both standard and custom menus.

From my experience, this only happens in the start menu. Emulator menus and such work fine.

This issue started a few months after I installed GameEx. After reinstalling fresh (for other reasons) the issue remained.

As bkenobi mentioned, it would be nice to have this fixed but it isn't a huge deal. I am running custom menus and like bkenobi I simply make the first item blank. HOWEVER, there is one negative side to this. After I enter a sub menu and return to the main, the cursor now correctly appears on the first item, which is blank.

-I should also mention I only run full screen, so I do not know what happens when gameex is windowed.

Thanks for the report guys. Marked the title as [bUG] and also have pointed Tom to this topic in hopes he can get a fix out.

I should note that this is only behavior seen on my driving cab. My main cab acts as desired. I have always assumed this was an issue with the way I have my steering wheels set up. I tried a bunch of things at the time to see how to fix it, but I gave up and just accepted the minimal limitation. FWIW, I do run a flat menu with only 2 custom lists (MAME32 files). I don't believe I have custom menus running, but I don't remember at the moment.
