So, I'm sitting at work day dreaming about getting my rig setup optimally, please forgive me as I cannot remember the settings exactly. For MAME there are two separate entries for game snaps, one static and one video. For other emulators there is one, video/game snaps. Can I add both directories to the emulator snaps entry and GameEx will use the video if available, and static if not? Kind of like how you can add multiple Rom directories in the MAME setup? Example for my NES emulator the snaps directory would be setup like this: E:\Assets\Nintendo NES\VSnaps, E:\Assets\Nintendo NES\Snaps. My other option, which would definitely work, but I want to keep the two types separated if possible, would be to combine the two into one directory.

Thanks in advance for your help,

If you wamt the snap to show in place of the video if you don't have the video, then you need to have the video and snap share the same directory. I have mine setup like yours, with seperate directories so if I don't have the video it will show the box, title, snap etc.

Balls. I'll have to combine the two I guess. Well, at least I can delete the extra snaps and gain some space on my hard drive. Thanks, starbuck.

I actually keep both so the static snaps show up on both my gamer card and GameEx Live, but that's me... :)

I've just noticed the 'Not found Snap' box in each emulator config screen

So say you have a 'Snap' directory containing static screenshots and a 'Video_AVI' folder containing you in game videos

Can you set the "Snap/Video Path" to point to the 'Video_AVI' folder and set 'Not found Snap' to point to the 'Snap' directory?

So that way if it doesn't find a video it will revert to the 'Not found Snap' directory and look for a screenshot

I think it would be better if GameEx had a separate Snap and Video Path rather than a combined, it would fit in better with how the "Download Service Utility" creates it's default directories.

Unfortunately the path you're talking about is for a single default image for games you don't have a snap for. It doesn't work that way.

Ah I see, that makes sense too but I think my way was better :) I think I smell a feature request :)

In all honesty I feel the best way to handle this would be to allow for multiple folder paths in the Snap/AVI entry instead of having two seperate entries, but again that's just an opinion. ;)

Either works for me, just whatever is easiest for Tom to implement

I think consistency with how emu movies updates defaults would be best.. my 2 cents.

Either would do that. Again, I just think it would be easier to impliment adding another path to an existing field as opposed to creating a new sub class for a

new field.

That would also save having to write a new routine for gamer cards and GameEx live, ya know? It's a win/win.

Well I'm glad my question spawned into a creative conversation that may lead to a new feature. One way or the other would be nice, consistency with the downloader, or easier to implement. As it stands I just copied the contents of my static snaps into my video snaps folder. I have them separated so if, in the future, we can add multiple paths I can go that route.

It would be nice to get some feedback on this from Tom, at the minute it appears that his 2 applications are incompatible with each other. I you use his download service utility you then have to manual combine the snap and video directory. This it's a major problem as it won't take long but kinda defeats the purpose of his download utility as next time it scans and looks for missing snaps it will think they are all missing and download them again.

Either that or we have to keep 2 copies, one for GameEx and one to stop his download utility from downloading twice.

The same goes for the advert and video_advert folder that his utility creates, GameEx only allows one TV Advert path to be selected.

Not a lot of systems have video adverts so I just use a custom path for these. As far as the utility goes, it creates a 'miss' and a 'have' list so as long as you leave these in their respective folders this shouldn't happen.

I move all my snaps and leave these txts for scanning missing snaps so the utility shouldn't download stuff I already have. No need to worry as long as it works (I have yet to test this theory).
