hi guys,

Maybe a stupid question but is it possible for GameEx to run multi versions of mame, by that i mean certain versions of mame run some games other versions dont for example the new mame 142u2 dont run akkanvader a game the kids love but i know an older version did, so is it possible to get gameex to specify which version it uses for certain games???

No - it's not a daft question but is one that has been asked with some frequency. You can run multiple Mame versions but you will have to setup the them up as separate emulators (each will have it's own install folder and each will have to be assigned a separate emulator in Advanced Config - but you can share the same asset (Snaps, Video for example) and ROM paths so you are not doubling up on those. You would probably want to retain the ini paths, ctrlpnl, etc. that are specific for that MAME build.

Anyone else have a similar setup to share?

Using the MAME Emu Maps feature will give you the results you're after. This will allow you to choose which emulator to run a specific rom from (i.e. Alternate version of MAME or another emulator). There is a file called mameemumap.ini found in the CONFIG directory of your GameEx install that allows you to edit it. Examples are provided within the file. Tempest has also created a GUI for this feature and it's included with the GameEx install. Details on GUI can be found here.
