Random blank screen on Mame or Project 64 exit

Recommended Posts

I've checked through the forum and saw another person with exact same problem but he didn't follow up the request to post a log. Randomly when I exit Mame or Project 64 I can't get back to Gameex I just get a blank screen. No ctrl alt del or anything. The only thing I can do is restart the machine. I must admit I'm new to Gameex and all the emulators but not to PCs. The emulators work ok when run direct. I am using DVI not VGA but woulnt thought that would be it.

Any suggestions for proving what could be using this?

Cheers Clarkers

Can you please post a log and a copy of your gameex.ini file (open it in Notepad and save as a txt file before uploading)? ;)

Thanks Draco 1962. I've attached the log and ini file however I think the log may have been overwritten after a reboot?

Replicate the problem and then immediately grab a copy of the log file and send it up here again.

I had a similar problem running MAME teris but the display came back after 1 minute or so. I've attached the log file however I mapped a drive to the Arcade Machine's C drive and openedd the log file and the last entrey was:

14:38:18.8 13/02/2011: Restoring Emulator from Cache

14:38:18.8 13/02/2011: Restoring Emulator Database From Cache

14:38:18.9 13/02/2011: Restoring Emulator from Cache

14:38:28.5 13/02/2011: Running: cmd.exe /c C: C:\Mame\mame.exe atetrisb -rompath C:\Mame\roms -nowindow -joy -skip_gameinfo

14:38:28.5 13/02/2011: Shutting down display

then the display came back afew mintues later and I refreshed it and this was added (but I'd exited the game before 14:46 (and the PC anbd Arcade clocks are sync'd))...:

14:46:25.9 13/02/2011: Exiting game

14:46:26.2 13/02/2011: Writing MAME stats

14:46:26.2 13/02/2011: Plugin: Game Exit

14:46:26.3 13/02/2011: Restoring Window

14:46:26.3 13/02/2011: Reinitializing Graphics System

14:46:28.1 13/02/2011: Returning to GameEx

I'm not sure this is a good exmple as the display did returnd so I'll keep checking for a good example.

Thanks - one thing you may want to try is clearing out your cached files - Under \GameEx\DATA path, delete any file with cache in the file name r file extension (don't worry, these files rebuild after you restart GameEx and start using the various emulators and other options).

Hi, Did that and then left it playing tetris for 15 mins. When I exited the screen went blank and then it didn't respond and had to hold in the pwoer bottom.

When it locked the last entries in the log were:

15:12:45.0 13/02/2011: Plugin: Game Exit

15:12:45.0 13/02/2011: Plugin: Process Commands

15:12:45.0 13/02/2011: Restoring Window

15:12:45.0 13/02/2011: Reinitializing Graphics System

15:12:46.8 13/02/2011: Returning to GameEx

15:13:29.3 13/02/2011: Running: cmd.exe /c C: C:\Mame\mame.exe atetrisb -rompath C:\Mame\roms -nowindow -joy -skip_gameinfo

15:13:29.3 13/02/2011: Shutting down display

and on reboot it started with:

15:34:16.0 13/02/2011: GameEx: Version 11.55: Starting Log

15:34:16.1 13/02/2011: Operating System Platform: Win32NT

15:34:16.1 13/02/2011: Operating System Name: Windows 7

15:34:16.1 13/02/2011: Operating System Version: 6.1.7600

15:34:16.1 13/02/2011: Aero running

15:34:16.1 13/02/2011: Initializing Vista/Windows 7 volume control

I did notice that it didn't say "exiting game" at the end of the log when it locked up..Perhaps this is a MAME or ROM issue??

PS Should I have Aero on or off.. Machine is a Pentium Dual Core E5700 @3 Ghz with 2Gb running Running Windows 7 32 Bit. Graphics card is a NVIDIA Geforce 9300 GS (512Mb RAM). Running AVG IS (9.0 Registered).

If it's completely locking up then it's hard to tell where the error is coming from during run time. How bow you check event viewer in the administration tools of the control panel? Maybe something there may be of use to see what's crashing.

WIll do. I reckon it's something to do with the graphics card as It's now started going blank when going into Project 64 Super Mario Kart 64..but there is sound and you can exit ok. If you run project 64 on it's own then it works fine.. Bizarre..

This sounds similar to the issues I've been having when executing an emulator from GameEX and then it not running anything after...

Make sure you have the latest nVidia drivers installed for your car. Also, you may want to try with Aero off and see if you have any better luck with it. My guess is that there is something not right with the screen res settingws in the emulator - might want to go over those as well.

Mmm. PJ64 in particular takes up to 30 seconds to load on my machine... wonder if its related?
