Newbie Questions - Things working but not 100%

Hi all,

New user here, I've got my Cab on order, and I'm working on setting up my emulator PC to run mostly games from the 80's. PC is a P4 with a gig of RAM, recently wiped and running Windows XP, and MameUI loaded with a bunch of ROM files. I first tried HyperSpin but that was too much for the PC, so I tried GameEx and so far it is awesome, I'm very pleased.

I tried looking around the forums for my answer, but not seeing my specific issue. MameUI is running fine, and games run using that interface. GameEx runs fine, and games run using that frontend. My issue is that a large number of my ROMS that run in MameUI are not visible in GameEx. Mainstream games like Defender and Donkey Kong don't appear to be present. Again, many games ARE visible, but many that run fine in MameUI don't appear in the different selections.

I've tried refreshing MameUI and GameEX, but to no avail. I'm using the Registered version, basic theme and setup, nothing custom. I'm fairly PC savvy, but very new to MAME.

Appreciate any insight! Also feel free to ask for additional information and I'll find what I can. Thanks much.

Did you update the game list in gameex ( go to mame, scroll right down to update game list ) also get version 0.141 of mame as most roms work better withit, i had the issue that they would show but not work hense gameex wouldnt show them, specially defender and donkey kong

I tried the update, no good. I updated to version .140u3 of MameUI32, refreshed that, updated GameEx again, no good. Same games still present, same games still absent.

Could it be something simple like a setting where some games not selected to show? Checked and all Mame games set to show though...

Ideas?

Looks like I did!

Turned on Porn, non-working games, and some others. Now a whole bunch more are displayed! Off to tweak settings to see if I can get this right.

I'm back. Problem above is that I had filter to not show non-working games. But the games in question work in MameUI but not in GameEx. If selected in GameEx the screen goes black for a few moments, beeps are heard, and then back to menu. Believe I have most up to date versions of all 3 pieces, but something not off. Just updated again and no dice.

What piece am I missing?

Hmm. Try and run one with GameEx in window mode so you can see what the error message is. Usually a beep means some type of promt is popping up.

Always the same problem : not viewing my games...maybe Tom should set a defautl configuration to see all games without activating any filters...that would be easier...
