Hey all

So, I've recently taken an interest in MediaPortal as an awesome replacement for Windows Media Center. The only problem?

No GameEx!!

I was wondering if anyone has managed to get GameEx working seamlessly with MediaPortal. After all, Windows Media Center is obviously not central to launching GameEx, as it is it's own program.

Have you checked through the plugins available on the website? If you can install an app or emu to run through Media Portal, then you should be able to integrate GameEx in some form or fashion - likely under "my programs".

I would probably "search" through their forums using "GameEx" as the key word. SInce MP has been around 6+ years my guess it has been addressed there a time or two.

Having seen the demos, MP seems to be quite impressive for Open Source. XBMC looks pretty good as well, without the higher-end PC requirements for running the client/server apps. For my immediate needs, will probably stick with MCE a while until I can get the kids out of the house and free up the cash to build a full-on media center server, etc.

As usual - my 2 cents (if it were real money Tom could retire!) :P

Well, as far as media center software is concerned, I have been working on my HTPC for 2 years now. I've heard of MediaPortal, and I've actually tried XBMC before. Each piece of software has their advantages and disadvantages, depending on what you want to do.

If you just want to watch and record live TV from a computer without any hassle or setup, then WMC is the way to go.

If you want something that looks really nice, and has amazing client/server functionality (after all, that has a lot to do with it's history), XBMC is top notch.

I haven't taken MediaPortal seriously last I'd seen it, but since I've taken a second glance, they have come a very long way in terms of video file organization and management. After messing around with it for just one day, it does everything I want it to do.

EDIT: So, I've been looking around on the forums, and I didn't see anything substantial on people launching GameEx. Awhile ago, people were using My Programs, but now, people seem to be using MultiShortcut. Now if only I could get the damn thing to work right...

DOUBLE EDIT: Ok, so My Programs is no longer under development, but theres another plugin called MultiShortcut. You can use this plugin to turn any Windows program into a plugin for MediaPortal, complete with it's own menu entry and customizable title! It's not exactly user-friendly yet, since it's still under development, but it works!
