No need for an apology! We are here to help. Some of us are just limited and it helps to not have to translate so we can address the problem quickly!

Can you try to open one of your .pdf files again, then attach a copy of your log file located under C:\GameEx\LOG ? Also, it may be helpful if we have an example or two of the .pdf you are attempting to open.

The more examples we can provide for Tom the more quickly he may be able to determine why were are seeing these errors and find a resolution.

We appreciate your help and if not noted previously, welcome to the forums!

Unfortunately I have the same problem... There is a solution for this issue?

I will try to download and install the official Ghostscript package... I see GameEx uses GS in order to visualise pdfs...

Thanks.

Now the problem is solved for me... I downloaded and installed the latest OfflineGameManualInstall.exe. It installs Ghostscript 9.00. I was using the previous version (8.something).

For users running Win XP 32 bit, there is an issue with the registry entries: the setup will ask you to add gs-32-bit.reg and gs-64-bit.reg. Don't add gs-64-bit.reg unless you actually have a Windows 64-bit OS.

Furthermore, I noticed that the following entries are added with the Offline Manual Install:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GPL Ghostscript]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GPL Ghostscript\8.54]

"GS_DLL"="C:\\Program Files\\gs\\gs\\bin\\gsdll32.dll"

"GS_LIB"="C:\\Program Files\\gs\\gs\\lib;C:\\Program Files\\gs\\fonts;C:\\Program Files\\gs\\gs\\Resource"]

Now, these reg entries refer to an english installation of Windows. For non-english users the path to program files is different: in my case, for example, is: "C:\Programmi", for german users is "C:\Programme" and so on...

Manually fixing the paths in question in the registry has solved the problem. Now I can view manuals using the GameEx interface. :)

I hope this will be useful to other users with the same problem.

In order to get mine working, I had to first uninstall Ghostscript v8.54 and then run the OfflineGameManualInstall.exe and select the correct key for your machine (32bit or 64bit). To uninstall Ghostscript, I deleted the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GPL Ghostscript, then deleted the Program Files/gs folder.

Its working fine for me. Could it be a file rights issue? Does the user have write access to gameex\data?

I use WinXP SP3, so it can't be a UAC issue. "My Program Files" folder has no limitations at all. I solved with the method explained above.

I wonder if this wasn't a residual install before we upgraded GhostScript recently? Can I mark this as "resolved"?

After further checking for this problem I can say it is definitively a residual install issue. Just delete all you GhostScript files AND delete leftover registry entries before upgrading. New users should not have this problem.

Does GameEx install the 32-bit version? I wonder if this might need to be fixed to allow for selection of 32-bit vs 64-bit when opting to install the eBook Reader?

I'm starting to think that this is exactly the problem. The version Tom updated from before didn't have a 32 and 64 version, so the old version probably needs to be completely uninstalled before updating.

Maybe. ;)

When most people were using XP 32-bit I don't think it was that much of a problem. With more and more migrating to Win 7 (or even relegating their previous Vista machines to function as cabs or HTPCs) running 64-bit versions it will become more apparent.
