Hi all!!!

I'm using latest version of GameEx and i have a problem with ebook reader and PDF reader.

Everytime i want to open a game/rom manual, ebook or another media in pdf format, Gameex don't do anything, and return to the menu.

How can i configure the pdf visor?

It's a bug in latest version of GameEx?

Thanks in advance!!!

Did you install the GhostSccript PDF viewer when you initially installed GameEx? It's in the offline installer package.

I don't know because i usually update Gameex, not make a fresh install.

I will try to install it manually.

There is no other option to activate PDF when Gameex is installed?

Not really. Just grab the offline installer and check the box next to game manual viewer.

I think i installed it, but i'm not sure...

The version to download on Gameex homepage is the latest?

Can I re-install the Gameex program and preserve all my configurations?

thanks in advance.

Should be the latest and yes you can reinstall and your settings will be preserved. To be safe, you can always just back up your settings.

Ok, reinstalled and downloaded the pdf reader and still make the same.

When i want to view a manual or ebook, i press enter to view it and return to prior menu.

Suggestions?

Could you post your log?

Attempt the pdf viewer again, after fail, go to your gameex\data directory and you should see the gameex.log file there.

Ok, here is my log attempting to open a pdf in GameEx.

You sure you have your path settings correct for game manuals? Are they zipped or something? Your log says it can't find your game manual images. Please verify the settings are correct and the files aren't zipped or inside folders, and paths are set correctly. If you still have problems let me know and we'll go from there. :-)

Ok, the paths are the same like 1 year ago...

I no changed the paths or something...

For example, the path for Mame manuals is I:\Mame\manuals

I'm surprised because the path is correct, Gameex detects that there are a manual for the game selected, but when you try to open it fails...

If the path was wrong, Gameex couldn't detect the manuals for each game, and now i can see the word "manual" on the games that have it....

It's rare...

Adultery is referring to the section in the log file that is showing:

14:20:39.4 05/01/2011: Game Manual images not found

14:20:42.0 05/01/2011: Game Manual images not found

14:20:43.3 05/01/2011: Game Manual images not found

Locate the gameex.ini file and open in Notepad, searching for ManualPath=C:\Assets\MAME\Manual (this is the correct location in my system, yours will likely differ but this entry should match what is showing in the GameEx Setup wizard under eBook settings for eBook and Comics paths. Keep in mind that you can setup multiple paths for reference so long as each complete path is separated by ;

You may also want to try this if the above suggestion does not correct. Go to C:\GameEx\DATA and delete all files that contain the word "cache" (no quotation marks) in them. It is possible that there is a cached entry that is loading and not being overwritten. Don't worry! The cache files will rebuild themselves.

I am running 64-bit Windows 7 same as you and have not had any issues with loading any .pdfs through the eBooks app but will be glad to continue to help you troubleshoot.

Ok, tried both options but no good results.

Still doing the same.

I think is a problem with the pdf reader and windows 7 x64 or something similar.

I was able to see pdf in gameex since now...

It can't be that unfortunately. Could you try and install the manual viewer again please? It's working for others using the same OS. :(

Just for argument's sake, is what is your path to the manual viewer? Do your ebooks work and not game manuals? Could you maybe post a manual so I can have a look and see if I can reproduce this error? Better still, can you post your GameEx INI?

Tom or anyone - can you try to reproduce this error in the attached screen image? I get the error and have to hit Cancel 3-4 times, then the manual loads and all is back to normal. Seems to occur the further one goes down the listed paths, almost as if the script is having a problem recognizing the path at first. I am also including a copy of my gameex.ini file.

I am not sure it is the SAME error he is encountering but I am very suspicious. Thanks!

EDIT - Here is my log file as well. Notice the similarity to the errors Evilforces had in his log file (in red) and then some....

Hmm, so this is only happening in MAME manuals then? Or all game manuals? I just haven't really noticed a problem on my setup. If it's MAME specific, he may have just forgotten to update the GS settings for MAME when we moved up several versions just a few builds ago.

.:SIDEBAR:. Tom, is this some sort of sick and cruel joke? Heh heh!

Thanks.

Sorry for the offtopic...

Excuse me Draco...

What Gameex theme are you using on this thumb?

Posted

the error I am encountering is not for the MAME .pdfs on my system, but with other systems.

I am using Carbon & Steel 2.0 (one of a few I have created custom for my system) and have uploaded to the themes section.
