Creating missing snaps

Hi guys,

Thought I may as well use GameEx to search through and create any snaps I may be missing, so I enabled the feature in the config, but for the life of me I can't find the option in the GameEx Menus?? So once the feature is enabled, how do I actually do it?

Depending on the theme you are currently using,create snaps is usually located on the bottom row of the page that your roms are on

So does that mean the bottom rom of my list of games (ie all MAME games) ? After Z? It's not there, not on the bottom row of anything, and I've changed themes a few times to make sure I wasn't missing it.

I bet the option is gone from the theme you're using... Try using a default theme.

Also with the default theme I've always known it to be on the top of your game list, not on the bottom as previously mentioned. It's listed along with options like Change View, Back, Home, and Exit.

Hmmm, ok I'll have another look. Like I said, I changed a few themes, but admittedly I was looking in the wrong place - I was looking where the games are listed - not where Change View etc are.

If it is not showing in default theme, check your settings in Advances Configuration to ensure that the option is not disabled.

Yep done that - thanks - definitely enabled, that's why I couldn't understand why I couldn't see it in the menus. Looking in the wrong place probably part of the problem......

To be honest, I do not think that the theme is ever an issue (other than where someone has put the function bar or if they exclude it entirely. I went through my theme and noticed that create snaps is not showing yet is enabled in the configuration, so something is amiss. I have not used it so never really noticed it until now.

That makes me feel a bit better - I thought I was going mad not being able to see it!

I went through my setup and the "Create Snaps" option does not show under MAME or DAPHNE. It does show up under Winkawaks, Console, Handheld, PC emulators. Not sure why it no longer shows under MAME or DAPHNE (and will not display No Image Available logo even though the option and entry for a path shows for each).

I think it handles these differently, because there's an option for creating MAME videos in the GameEx start menu folder. Perhaps that's for snaps too?

Does GameEx automatically create missing videos? If it's supposed to, then it's broken. If nothing else, it should also allow for using the no image file if it is an option under it. Something ain't quite right....

I didn't know that option was there either? If it was (and it worked), it would solve a few issues.

Yeah the option is there, I had a look at it last night - the problem is that it creates videos for ALL games, not just the missing ones (and takes about 2 days to run!). I'm only missing about 1% videos and snaps, so this option is not particularly viable.

That's why the Create Snaps option appealed - it only creates the missing snaps - perfect. So any update on where the option has disappeared to?

Does it appear for you in emulators and not MAME? The easy fix for that is to set up as an emulator for this. Otherwise you can do it the long way and go to a MAME DB like MAWS and get them on a per-game basis.

No - it doesn't appear for me in anything (nor for others apparently). Is it appearing for you? And I'd be happy to get them on a per-game basis, but the problem is I don't have a way of filtering which ones are missing.

Yeah, create snaps is an option for me in emulators. It's right on the top... I use the BlueBox theme.

Right, I can see it in that theme as well.

Question - I thought it only looked for missing snaps and created them? Seems to me it wants to create snaps for ALL games?

That's what it does for me... I just tried it with my NES emu which was only missing a handful of snaps.

Lol welcome to my world! Use the Blue whatever it's called Theme, that's the only one I could get it in. You'll see it on the left hand side when you pull up the Emulators menu.
