Thanks Chillin! :D

That is what I did wrong I had to use .zip instead of .rar! Works now... Updated the Bagman bezel so all you have to do is just copy the zip file to your MAME/Artwork folder and won't be deleted by Hyper Bezel. Inside MAME I named it Custom Bezel instead of Generic Bezel.

Very Cool! The updated Hyper Bezel no longer requires Hyperspin :D Just tested it and it works!

Thanks for this. Now we could use a 3rd party program that can scan your artwork folder and list all the folders in the artwork directory that were created with Hyper Bezel and give you the options to select which ones you want to zip and then delete the folder after it zips it. Could call it MAME Bezel Compressor Magician ;) or something of the sort.

Knock yourself out Krakerman. :)

I could only wish I can do that sort of thing like you and Tempest. :)

The only programming software I have is DarkBasic Pro, Multimedia Fusion Developer and GameMaker 6/7/8 (and the last 2 I don't think qualify) and I never have really messed about with them that much. It would take me years to make something like that if ever.

Trust me If I could I would do it in a snap! No ?'s asked.

I'm confused, It sounds like you are thanking me but using Hyper Bezel?

Thanking you was for mentioning the artwork needs to be zip not rar as I forget that as I use WinRAR.

That was chillinwater, not me.

My bad....Thank you Chillin! but I'll Thank Tempest anyways as I'm sure he will have something down the road I'll thank him for. :P

This thread gave me the idea to knock up a little app that will convert a folder of marquees to bezel images. I'm posting the source here in the hope you guys can add support to your apps.

I'll attach some example bezels it's generated.

EDIT: See here

@HK - Great idea! A few questions if I might:

1. How will the app handle marquees that are not the same size?

2. Will it be cropped by the game when it displays if the Marquee is too wide or leave a black bar between the game and the marquee if too thin?

3. Am I correct to assume that the bezels generated will be 4:3 only?

Nice one HeadKaze!

@Drac: I would assume he stretches the marquee to fit the bezel.

I kinda threw together the app as an idea so it's really very basic at the moment. It just stretches and rotates the marquee to form a bezel. It really needs to read in the Mame data find out the orientation of the game and generate them based on that. I was thinking that HyperBezel could implement the idea rather than write an entirely new app to do it. If the author of HyperBezel doesn't want to implement the idea then I could finish it off so that it actually generates the entire .lay file etc. I have code that does all this in CPWizard so it would be mostly copy/pasting code.

if its a rom specific "romname.png" file its already supported in the pending release which would support those bezels.

Having trouble with marquee's and move strips... they are killing me...

I want to show them "Marquees" above and move "strips" below the game field in the .lay files, although they can be implemented on a second screen.

...but its holding up my release.

Anybody good with .lay files? (Im toooo chicken to ask Mr. Do!!! and Headkaze....they're legends!!)

as it stands now, per game...(if exist, named properly, unzipped and placed in specified folders)

[x]-bezels

[x]-cards

[x]-controls

[0]-marquees

[0]-move strips

and generic of all of the above.

[x]-multiscreen support (built into the .lay not necessarily HBII)

using mames feature not a third party app.

[edit]

it would be really cool if your bezel creatin app could output 16x9, 16x10 and 4x3 in both vertical and horizontal flavors!

(thats 6...and 5 too many to ask for) lol

also...did i read somwhere that CPWizard allows you to batch create [rom] control.pngs?

Posted

CPWizard can batch create controls that display in MAME using the bezel system.

If someone can post me examples of lay's in all the different screen ratios I can add support for generating them.

Thanks Headkaze thats terrific news!

(You and Mr.Do scare me as talking to legends!!) among others here lol.

If you want my experimental set of .lays (actually only one 16x9 horizontal atm) with all the elements let me know.

I could sure use the help!!!

(or if you want to beta-test the new release and give tips, pointers) :)

So if CPWizard can output per game controls "romname.png" via batch and into a folder then Controls are set for HBII.

Then as for controls only, there would be no need to run CPWizard for controls after batch creation.

(unless you want to see...game info, hiscore, and all the other cool features of CPWizard)

Which I do like seeing!!!

But this will alleviate some crashing some users are exprienceing with the current CPWizard for the time being.

Currently for controls (in next release) if none are found a generic "user" controls panel will display.

Ill also add that all the new elements, controls being one of them will be selectable via mames in game "video options"

dialog.

This isnt finalised but some examples can bee seen here...

This is actually very Coool!!!

So if there arent any original marquees to create the bezels,

You can also use Hyperspins, wheels to supplement them...way cool!!!

I have HBII setup to supplement marquees with Hyperspin wheels too if no originals are found in next release.
