whats cool is that these machines had 2 sides, and it has 4 sets of controls!I was thinking of making each side just for one player, taking out one joystick on each side and installing more buttons

ive been wanting a smaller, non upright cab for awhile now,and I have such fond childhood memories of spending foolish amounts of money playing these games, when i could have played them at home for free....go figure

I would LOVE one of these too

I personally don't remember them at all. But they sure are cute. LOL. Looks like some sort of little robot. Pretty cool. Good luck on your search. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Was thinking of "Huey" from the Sci-Fi flick "Silent Running"

I've never seen those red cocktail style cabs before ever. Those standup Vs. arcades I have seen. Quite a bit of those actually. In my local area Craigslist there is a few of these that pop up, Vs. Baseball and a few others. Right now there is a Playchoice 10 for $450.

The red cab would be an interesting MAME to say the least.

I thought it would be interesting as a mame cab also.especially with it having 2 sides,2 sets of controls, and best yet,2 monitors! would be cool to play a friend and have your own monitor.I also like my opponent not being able to see my hands are doing, gives you a tiny edge in fighting games especially when a moves requires a charge, like Guile's sonic boom or flashkick :D

It is an interesting style to say the least. I wonder if it would be possible to have GameEx flip play for those 2 player games from one side to the other while allowing the player waiting to veiw from his monitor the action of his opponent or to split the action between 2 for simultaneous play?

While some may be purests and want to leave the face and original monitors and coin doors intact, I might be tempted to cut it out bigger for widescreen monitors to accomodate more recent games as well.

I second that! It would look extremely clean with a big wide screen monitor on both sides. Mesk do you have the plans for this or are you going to take measurements from an existing cab?

Mast modern vid cards can mirror the game... This would really be a cool cab~! :)

now im thinking about just keeping this original, and just having it redone.I wasnt going too,but the owner of the cab has 5 or 6 playchoice games that he will be giving me when I buy the cab,and most of the games are easily obtainable online,so im torn between making it a mame cab or keeping it original big decisions......LOL

Well you know my thoughts on that but again don't let it discourage you. ;)

Wow, That is super cool. I wouldnt MAME it.. Ever

Cabs are a dime a dozen. To take something rare like that from nintendo and make it MAMED would be an insult to MAME.

Mame is about preservation, preserving these old cabs and software... I see all these old cool games being Mamed all the time.. Pretty soon there will be nothing left-- I guess mame will have to start emulating Mame cabs.

Anyways, please dont destroy that cool little cab for mame.

my 2 cents

ah Brian, you will be very happy to know that im keeping the playchoice original(minus minor repairs).im going to pick it up this weekend, along with a MKII cab that is going to be my MAME machine.the playchoice cab is just too cool to destroy, plus the fact im a HUGE big N fan,and this cab was a part of arcade history.

plus it doesnt seem too hard to locate most of the playchoice games, they are readily available online :D

I would love to get my hands on an original cab . I think that building a system would be even more rewarding than bastardizing a working piece of history.

After reading about your idea, I decided to find one. And I did. Its totally empty and stripped out but has a lot of potential. Plus the price was nice, Free-Ninty-Nine.

How are you coming along on yours mesk? I'd be cool to work on these together, Non-MAME.

If you can't find the guts to restore it to the "Choice" format, you could install two micro atx systems and set it up with independent stations on each side. That way, two people can play their own games - one on each side, or, with Client/Server MAME or MESS can play vs. one another. For sound, could install ear phone jacks so they could use head sets to not inerfere with one another while playing two different games (of course, if you have an extgernal speaker for each, when in attract mode, would have your ambient arcade sounds due to different demos going on each side).

That's a helllovan idea Draco. I'm looking at options now. Firstly, getting the guts and repainting. Arcadeboneyard has a good selection of Nintendo tent parts, aside from Fleabay. I'm itching to get started.
