Evaluating before buy - Can't show 8,500 rom set.

Hello friends, I'm evaluating GE before purchasing it. Wondering why the database does not show my complete set of roms which is close to 8,500 and only shows 3,553 (1/2) of all available roms to play. How can the complete rom set show up as an available game. Is the clone option disabled somewhere?

Thanks,

You need to adjust the filters in the GameEx setup. By default, Tom (the author) has the list set up how most people seem to want things (no clones, only games that MAME says are valid, only games that MAME lists as working, etc). In addition to these options, there are some overrides which allow the user to force certain games to display or not display (filter and do not filter lists). If you want all of your games to show up, you need to open up all the filters and make sure you don't have anything in the filter list.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

took me about 8 minutes to decide to donate and get the full version :P and that was after evaluating ALL the other mainstream frontends

Welcome!I hope you enjoy your stay!

That's what I thought, have to re-install the program. Not a big issue, but was looking for a way to make changes in the game. Wasn't sure if the full edition had these features unlocked.

Thanks.

No, you don't have to reinstall GameEx. There are 2 setup applications (setup wizard and config utility) that allow you to set up all the features. You can have these launch from GameEx if you so choose, but it can also be launched from Windows. Either way, once the changes are made and you restart GameEx, you simply update your game list and you should be set.

Thanks friends, I'm evaluating another competitive front end which has more artwork, but a few issues not too happy about. There is no simple way to add to favorites and no available bad rom delete option. Yes, we can all code xml, but that's not going to happen with an 8,500 rom set that has hundreds of bad roms loaded into a cabinet. Have no issue dropping $25 into something that works.

Another annoying issue is when you launch a bad rom (HS) the entire front-end freezes and requires a reboot. Has anyone experienced anything like this in GE?

Any issues with the OS? Currently running vista sp1.

Before upgrading to Win 7 Pro 64-bit, I was running GameEx quite well on Vista Home 32-bit. Are you getting a disclaimer/warning screen before running the bad ROM? I have had GameEx and MAME both choke on bad ROMs before. Not much you can do other than not play them.

If you run a bad rom, MAME should give a warning and then kick back to the FE. I don't know what happens in HS since I've never run it, but it works fine in GameEx. You will basically see a flash of black when it tries to run the game and then the FE will pop back up.

Nice to know it's a mame thing and not a frontend issue. It's becoming more important to be able to delete games (in-game). I went through both the setup and config and did not see any filter options or anyway to show all roms. Would like to see this area before purchasing. So far the forum has great support. Has anyone compiled a newer version of mame or fixed a number of bad roms? Running 0.139. The car games like crusin exotica, crazy taxi, etc, 18 wheeler and a number of the naomi games either don't start or are bad. One of my all time favorites is sinistar (used to have a genuine cab) refuses to run :(

Thanks,

To show all roms then you could follow the steps found in the tutorial Show All MAME Roms in GameEx here at the tutorials section of GameEx's site. As far as the bad roms then that's where the filters come in handy for them not be listed in the GameEx list. Best to just toy with the filters to give the wanted results. They are pretty self explanatory using the help button next to the setting. Really just depends on what you want and all of us users have different roms listed as we have different filters. So give it a try and if looking for a specific listing then ask and we'll try to help you with the filters as best we can. ;)

use DEMUL for those games you mentioned.they run much better on DEMUL then on Mame ;)

Wow not sure how I missed those settings lol. Saw that page and was looking for "filters" or something else. Never heard of demul :) Will check that out shortly! Planning on running some tests in the cab with GE then make a contribution to the project.

Thanks!
