well i use M.E.S.S. for vectrex,(im actually a huge vectrex fan)you can get the overlays from EMUMOVIES so why dont you go and get everything you need, then come back here if you still need help

This post links to a few topics that may be of interest. This seems to be a FAQ. I personally changed to ParaJVE to avoid all the hassle. It runs well and overlays aren't a problem with this emulator.

Wobbly - you may want to check out this forum/site I "googled" as is appears to address some of the problems you have with Overlays. I have not attempted to emulate Vectrex yet so can't be of much help.

did you unzip the vectrex artwork file into the M.E.S.S. artwork directory?also there is a file named"vectrex.lay" which also must be in the artwork directory.then you need to run mess, and after the game loads you press"tab"on your keyboard and go to "video options"and there will be a option to enable\disable the overlays.let us know how you did and if you need anymore help ;)

Command=mess.exe vectrex -cart "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -view "[ROM]" -joy -now -nonewui

ParaJVE does work under Win7 64-bit. It does require some tweaking however (Map file and tweaking the bat file). I have provided both required files to make ParaJVE GameEx friendly. Please click on the link in my signature. It links to the User Submissions stickied topic. If you have any questions or problems then please feel free to post.

mesk! I erased the post that only had "--" in it. I guess it didn't go through. Thanks for the support in this topic as well as the other members who are trying to resolve this question.

Tried to use ParaJVE. Works fine outside of GameEx.

Installed the motified bat file and the map file. Used the command line but I get a black screen and I can hear the game running in the background. Tried to set desktop to true and false. Black screen everytime and locks GameEx. Can someone look at my ini file and tell me whats wrong.

Thanks

Use MESS for Vectrex and the overlays work fine for me. You know, you need to do a vectrex.lay that distinctly points to the overlay you want to use on a per-game basis, and zip all these things together into vectrex.zip and place them in the artwork folder.

I'll do an edit from the cab and copy in my vectrex.lay and you can change your file names if need be.

Hope that helps ya!

.:EDIT:. Here's the lay file you will need... Make your edits and away you go.

you need to do a vectrex.lay that distinctly points to the overlay you want to use on a per-game basis

actually you dont.as long as you have all the overlays unzipped, with vectrex.lay and vectrex.zip in the same folder, whichever game i load comes up with the correct overlay, one after another :P

*stands corrected* :)

I remember having a hell of a time with it. Wish I woulda known that! ;)

They sure are. Takes some tweaking. That's why I went with paraJVE. I'll post the special lays in my post soon even though they are available in the forums. That way they are easier to find. I'll make a lay for each known naming convention so that it will be easier for users.

Sorry haven't gotten back to you starbuck. Haven't had internet since doing some remodeling. Will take a look when I get a chance to figure this one out for you. Your reported issues do seem weird though and I don't wanna just guess at the cause.

Still messing with this in MESS. Anybody have a sample .lay file they could upload? Adultery posted the exact same .lay file I have and have been tweaking.

What naming convention are your roms named? I guess it's time we supply these as this has been an issue for some. The reason I never did is because different users have their roms named in a different format.

Mine are the No-Intro 20081109 set.

Just bumping this again to see if anyone had an example .lay file they could share.

I don't use MESS for vectrex but I will post the needed lay format to match the no-intro naming convention as soon as possible. I'll post when it is complete and it will be found on the user submissions page or also can be linked from my signature. Not a hard thing to do since Vectrex doesn't have very many roms. Don't see why it hasn't been posted before.

Posted

I posted mine earlier but I hand named the roms for Vectrex so it likely isn't much help. However the changes are easy to make... does the artwork follow the same naming convention?

If you want to try editing mine, just copy mine from before, paste it in notepad, save it as vectrex.lay and change the rom/artwork names where its needed.
