i bought a dream authentics cabinet years ago, which i love... ive made some cool modifications since... led buttons, new spinner that has up and down on it i.e discs of tron (via groovy game gear), etc...

i dont have much time to do work on it.. im lucky if i get to run my machine every few weeks.. sometimes months...

it has been 2 months since ive used the machine. at that point, everything was running smoothly.

i updated gamex yesterday.

after updating, i run it.. it begins to start... then immediately closes.

need help.

thanx

Please post your log as it might contain something useful to us to troubleshoot. Usually after an update if something doesn't work, it's best to do an offline update first(updating by the executable instead of within GameEx). Maybe something became corrupt during the upgrade.

No apologies needed. I didn't mean that in a bad way. It's just that those instructions are overlooked sometimes. ;)

As far as your issues....Did you try to reinstall first? If so and you're still receiving those errors, then perhaps try the default theme. That will narrow things down.

ive considered that. the only reason that i havent is this. gameex came pre-installed with the dreamauthentics machine. a license of the full version comes bundled with it. however, i have not been in any way been able to retrieve a license code, or serial number or anything. ive emailed game ex. no response... not to say that im opposed to paying for a license... for what i payed... im sure i already have.

if i reinstall.. do i just install over what is here already? do i uninstall and reinstall?

sorry to be such a n00b... i dont see the faq referred to at the bottom of the page... ill explore more.

i dont even have a log on id or password for the main gameex site. :(

Just install GameEx over the top of what you have. It should just fix any corrupted files. It wouldn't be a bad idea to make a backup of your GameEx install directory just in case things go badly, though.

Maybe try another theme?

Tom: I see there is an error creating a texture. Are you creating non-power 2 textures? I ask because some older cards only support power-of-two sized textures (and some only support square textures) so this would fail.

Here is a method I use for setting the size.

private static Size GetTextureSize(Device device, Size srcSize, out float tu, out float tv)
{
Size retSize = new Size(srcSize.Width, srcSize.Height);
Size maxSize = new Size(device.DeviceCaps.MaxTextureWidth, device.DeviceCaps.MaxTextureHeight);
tu = 1;
tv = 1;

if (device.DeviceCaps.TextureCaps.SupportsPower2)
{
for (;retSize.Width < srcSize.Width; retSize.Width <<= 1);
for (;retSize.Height < srcSize.Height; retSize.Height <<= 1);
}

if (device.DeviceCaps.TextureCaps.SupportsSquareOnly)
{
retSize.Width = Math.Max(retSize.Width, retSize.Height);
retSize.Height = Math.Max(retSize.Width, retSize.Height);
}

if (retSize.Width > maxSize.Width)
retSize.Width = maxSize.Width;
if (retSize.Height > maxSize.Height)
retSize.Height = maxSize.Height;

tu = (float)srcSize.Width / (float) (retSize.Width + 1);
tv = (float)srcSize.Height / (float) (retSize.Height + 1);

return retSize;
}

No it shouldnt be but this looks like a graphics card/driver issue to me.

Can you also post your log please.

What format are you using for the render target? Format.A8R8G8B8? It may be worth trying device.DisplayMode.Format although I would expect a 32-bit mode to support A8R8G8B8.

Yes, otherwise A4R4G4B4 if the display is running 16 bit. The issue is I need an alpha format so cant use the display.
