High res game isssue

It looks like the newer high res games (mame) are not working - Like simspons bowling for example. The game just will not start. Any suggestions? I am running a dual P4 3Ghz system with 1G of ram and a NVidia GeForce4 MX420, XP Media Center. I dont think its a resource issue. Is there other drivers I need? Should I use advancemame? Any settings I should change in GameEx for these type of games? Also the games are currently running off of a USB2.0 drive. These are the latest mame version roms.

When I run it the screen goes blank(montior acutally goes into sleep mode) until I press esc. Other high res games do the same.

I think simpsons bowling needs you to press a certain key to enable the eeprom. Does it load normally without using gameex?

I get no screenshot(goes blank). I will try manually loading tonight.
