Question: Are earlier versions of GameEx still available? Am I correct in thinking after V11 GameEx uses D3D and not DDraw any more?

Problem: GameEx gets to Creating Back Buffer and produces error Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D.Texture.. I suspect D3D based on the following. Mame would not run until I changed D3D to DDraw in config.ini; Windows Media center gives error "adaptor or drivers not compatible" when launched but runs anyway. dxdiags shows everything as fine and DDraw test and Direct3D tests are successful (runs interface 7,8,9 test fine).

I would like to try a DDraw version of GameEx to see if it works but cannot find. Or maybe I have got it all wrong and someone has a better suggestion to try. I can run Mame with other Fontends but GameEx is the frontend I liked best and I suspect will not run with the ATI 3D Rage Pro AGP 2x (GT-C2u2) on board adapter. Cant change this as no AGP support on motherboard. Project is for a friends Arcade Cabinet from spare hardware I have so cant upgrade.

TIA

Kiwi - From the description of the GPU, I assume this is a much older mobo (say around Win2k, 2002-2003)? Likely you are correct an an older GameEx version may be preferable, but I suspect that even with DirectDraw instead of D3D you may still have some issues.

Can you provide us with more system info (OS Version & Build/Service Pack), CPU, RAM, etc.? What resolution are you running? Do you have resizing disabled? If you can provide some more details about how you have GameEx configured to handle Display and error log may be helpful.

If you post your C:\Program Files\GameEx\LOG\log.txt file it should tell us quite a bit about your configuration. First thing I would check is if you're running at 32-bit colour depth.

Just to let you know I did try and do a Direct2d build yesterday and spend some time on it, but I must have broken some things along the way as there are issues with it. I dont think you should need a particularly special gfx card, so follow the advice above.

Your in luck. I was able to get it to what seems to work. Here is a DirectDraw compile exe of the latest version. Yoo should just be able to drop it into the folder after a normal install. I cant really offer too much support on it but I did want to keep backwards compatibility for a while.
