Hy Everyone !

Recently I've acquired a new machine to run GameEx on it.

I've bought this motherboard for my setup : http://tiny.cc/4t9q5

And with this little one , I've managed to put an GeForce 8400 GS video card.

The main purprose of this Video Card , is enable my setup to run even on old Standard TVs, via S-Video or RCA Cables.

The motheboard has a lot of great resources , like an SLI using the Onboard video and the installed video card.

But all those resources are only avaiable in Windows Vista/Seven.

So , after using it about two months with Windows XP and having a poor performance, I've decided to move to Windows 7.

I've bought Windows 7 Professional. In my opnion is the most complete edition without all the fancy and eye candy present on Windows 7 Ultimate/ Home Premium. And it has a good price ! B)

So I have some questions. :D

1- Does Instant Sheller works whell on it ? What Instant Sheller Hides on it ? I don't care about boot screen. (Acctually I love Windows 7 bootscreen!)

2- Does GameEx works good on it ? It has a better performance on Windows 7 or Windows XP ?

3- DirectX 10 (Native on Windows 7) will make GameEx better?

4- Any tip about problematic emulators ?

5- Should I move to MAME 64 Bits ? (I have MAME optimized for Core 2 Duo - 32 Bits)

I, too, am running on WIndows 7 Pro 64-bit. I will answer the questions you posted as best as I can:

1-a. Does Instant Sheller works well on it ? b. What Instant Sheller Hides on it ? I believe it should work the same - I have not tried it yet since I use this as my desktop PC and not dedicated HTPC/Retrogaming rig.

2-a. Does GameEx works good on it ? Yes b. It has a better performance on Windows 7 or Windows XP ? On high-end systems, IMO much better with 7 than XP.

3- DirectX 10 (Native on Windows 7) will make GameEx better? Same as 2-b.

4- Any tip about problematic emulators ? I have yet to run into any quirks or problems that stand out as a Windows 7 specific issue with any of the emulators as of yet.

5- Should I move to MAME 64 Bits ? (I have MAME optimized for Core 2 Duo - 32 Bits) Either should run just fine. I am running MameUI64 and see little difference. I prefer to run builds for 64-bit whenever possible.

I am sure others will chime in with their recommendations. I know that we had several threads going not very long ago regarding user configurations and favorite emus and there are a few that are pinned. Once I get everything setup as I like it I may add a link to my sig or profile listing the PC config, FE, themes, and emus setup - along with versions - for quick reference.

Hi Everyone!

Just a feedback.

I've moved back to Windows XP. :(

The Main reason is , My remote control (Philips SRM5100) Doesn't work properly with Windows 7.

Everything went fine in the instalation and tests with emulators.

But when I tried to use my remote, it doesnt work.

As soon I finish my customizations on Windows XP, I will publish my nlite template.

I slimed down Windows and services , so my Windows XP Boot is less then 20 seconds. With all drivers installed.

Thanks for the reply.

I found a forum that may have addressed the issues you were experiencing with Win 7 and your Philips Remote here should you decide to give 7 a try again. :)
