I just installed GameEx, downloaded a bunch of emulators through the setup wizard. I have no roms copied over to the new folders yet.

GameEx crashes on startup instantly, without doing anything -- it just shows the Gameex has stopped working dialog box.

This is on windows 7.

How can I get this fixed?

Here it is. Looks to me like the last thing it gets to is trying to set up a global keyboard hook. Perhaps there's some problem with how it's handling input. I forgot to mention this before, because I'm super absent minded, but there was also a .net error on the Input configuration panel of the config application.

I'm actually a bit reluctant to run it again, though, because I found that the setup app also seemed to mess up my media center codec configuration (I've set up the Shark007 Codec pack for my system) so that when I went to watch an mkv just now, it failed. I rolled back using system restore to before I configured (but after I installed) GameEx, and the codecs are working again.

Anyway, here's the log. Let me know what I can do to help debug.

Actually, that doesn't seem to be my log at all. Those aren't my directories and it didn't change at all when I just ran GameEx again...

Yep. Just deleted the log from C:\GameEx\LOG\ and ran GameEx again, which crashed, but there is no new log file. That was some sample log or something?

Anyway, I looked in the watson log on my computer and it's a .net type initialization error. It doesn't say what type, though. But it happens every time I try to start.

I don't see how a corrupted .net install could explain the codec issue. I don't want to try running GameEx again until I know how to prevent it from changing codec settings. Anybody know how I can do that?

I was just saying that if there is a problem with .Net, then it could be an issue. We have seen corrupted .Net installations cause GameEx issues.

Just wanted to add, GameEx does not install codecs or try to mess with them. The other additional installs it does is Mananged DirectX and Visual C run time. I very much doubt it was GameEx that messed up your codecs. We actually recommend the shark pack for use with GameEx.

As to your issue sounds like GameEx does not even get as far as creating the log, this would indicate what the others have said or something else not right win your windows 7 installation.

You may want to reinstall GameEx and, if that does not resolve the issue, then .net framework. Tom and the guys are very knowledgeable and won't steer you wrong. Additionally, I am running GameEx on a Windows 7 64-bit PC with the Shark Codec Pack and x64 Components Pack.

If you are new to emulators and frontends, you may want to try tackling one emulator at a time until you get your "emu legs" steady. MameUI32 or MameUI64 (if running 64-bit Windows) are a good place to start. It is easy to get overwhelmed trying to master them all at one time.
