Hello again every one, I have an earlier post in regards to folder structure that may possibly tie into my question because of the Play Random option in gameex. (Folder Structure Post: http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=8715) But my question is it possible or how would i go about being able to have either a play list or an option to randomly select a home movie to watch or show and have them be separate so if i wanted to watch a movie i could have gameex look though my folder(s) of movies and select one, or if i wanted to watch a show instead i could have gameex randomly select one for me as well. Lastly, have it select a random video either show or movie?

I do appologige it does look like i went on a tangent there.

Thanks in advance

I don't think there is any built in way to do this.

Just thinking here, but perhaps you could:

  • Write a couple scripts and set them up as applications.
  • I'm not familiar with playlists, but it may be possible to have a random item in a playlist.
  • Maybe even have a script that ran at start up that would randomly select a video and add it to the "random video" playlist that you set up.

That's all I can think of for now.

I wrote a script to randomize what would normally be a static file. You will find it by clicking on the link in my signature. I don't know if it will help you as is, or if it would need to be modified.

Take a look, at let me know what you think.

thank you for your suggestions. I will look into both methods and see if either will work out I know that there is a play all and play random option in gameex for videos if im not mistaken but i think it would not work out because it looks for tghe video file(s) in one folder and not sub folders. I have my collection setup X:/Movies/MovieFolder/Movie.file or X:/TV Shows/NameOfShow/Season x/episode.file i would have no problem using the single folder for movies but for TV it can get really messy from an organizational stand point.

If anyone else has any ideas please feel free to share and i will let everyone know of my findings and testing as well.
