I'm not sure if this is a MAME question or a GameEx question but I just got my usb trackball in the mail and I'm having trouble using it. Do I need to enable it somewhere? When I go to input settings within the games they have 'left arrow', 'right arrow', etc set for the controls. How do I change that to mouse settings? The trackball does control my pointer within GameEx so I do know it is working. I'm sorry this is probably a stupid question but I really am stumped. Thanks

Go to your MAME dir, open your mame.ini file and edit

### Input device options ###

mouse 1

trackball_device mouse

That should do it. I think you can do this via the mame in-game menu (~ button I think) on a per game basis as well. This should work for a USB based trackball/mouse.

Went to my mame directory and didn't see a mame.ini file. Did a full system search just to make sure I wasn't crazy and came up with nothing.

You have to run the mame command line tool to create the .ini file. The switch you are looking for is:

mame -createconfig

This will create the file for you to modify.
