Hi all,

I have GameEx pretty much working in my cab. The only 2 things I'm still having trouble with are making sure I have the right resolution before a game starts and mapping the right keys and or joysticks before a game starts.

My setup:

ArcadeVGA

Wells Gardner d9800

2 Ultrastiks

2 Happ mechanical rotaries (not the optic kind)

Ipac 2

I don't know to do all this. Are there ini files one can setup to set the right resolution before a game starts?

My problem with joysticks and buttons has to do mainly with 4 player games. I want my 2 ultrastiks as player 1 & 2 and my rotaries as players 3 & 4. By default my rotaries and ultrastiks are both player 1 & 2 so that running games like Ikari Warrior do not require any special settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Stephan

Hi Stephan,

Two things first. I don't have an arcade monitor, and I use the advanced configuration program to setup GameEx.

When you Start the Advanced configuration program, there is a section on the first page called 'Arcade VGA Settings' Hopefully, you will be able to do what you to do with resolutions in that section.

Regarding the Ultrasticks, I want to make sure that you are aware that HeadKaze has written a plugin (Use the Plugin Manager to enable) that will remap your Ultrasticks on the fly to the correct mode for each game in Mame. The sticks will be set to analog, 4way, 8way, diagonal 4way, etc depending on the game that you are playing.

Having said that, if you want to remap your entire control panel to be different for four player games, you will want to use CFG Magician - Click on my signature for the link.

Please post if you need clarification.

Hey Tempest,

Thanks for your help.

My biggest issue with video so far, has to do with games exceeding the boundaries of my screen. An example is Rygar. The top part of what should be on screen goes beyond the boundary of my monitor. So I was wondering what I could do to adjust each game so they all fit on the screen. I have tinkered with the ArcadeVGA settings without much luck. It looks like I need something to adjust before each game starts.

I will try out CFG Magician and the plugin for the Ultratiks. It sounds like that should do what I need. My issue there of course is that I need to remap my panel for the different games and it needs to happen on the fly before I launch games. For example Gauntlet would use my 2 Ultrastiks as joysticks 1 and 2 and my 2 rotaries as joysticks 3 and 4. However by default I run all the sticks as 1 and 2. That way if I play Ikari Warrior I don't need to change anything as I just use the rotaries. I could use the Ultrastiks as well if I wanted to. The buttons are also an issue as they need to be remapped as well. For players 3 and 4 anyway.

Thanks

You may also want to check the setting 'Don't switch resoultion' In 'display Settings(1). If that doesn't work, The guys here should be able to help with your monitor. You may be able to search the forums, and find what you are looking for.

This is exactly what CFG Magician was made for. If you need help with it, let me know.

Tempest,

Looks like I will have two of my issues fixed as you have pointed me in the right direction. As for the monitor, I have read quite a few posts on a few forums but it's been hard to find something that applies exactly to my problem. It's really a minor tweak I'm sure as most games work just fine. It's just some of the games that give me trouble. I will keep reading and I'll check the other forum you mentioned.

Thanks again.

Stephan
