game wont run

i have a strange problem with carnevil 1.03 i have had it set in my favorites and it allways worked but today i try to run it and the screen goes blank like its going to run but then it goes back to the gameex screen? i can run carnevil 1.01, i am using a compiled command line 136 of mame in game ex but i tried mame ui 136 on the same rom and carnevil 1.03 works? how can i tell whats going on in game ex with this game.

Go to your gameex directory and find the RUNITGAME.bat. Right click it anc choose edit. Highlight all the text and right click and choose Copy. Open a command prompt and right click and choose paste. Press Enter and see what it does.

i get carnevil.chd DIFF CHD ERROR: invalid parent

error required files are missing game cannot be run

The CHD's changed in a recent version of MAME. If you have updated your version of MAME to something current (last 6 months or so) and haven't updated your CHDs, then no CHD based game will work. There is a utility that the MAMEdevs released to update your CHDs that you may want to look into.
