:D Recently I built my first MAME Cabinet using the most excellent GameEx as its Frontend (From the first moment I set eyes on GameEx I knew it was going to be the one). ;)

Anyway, for the last week everything has been running fine while I playtest and add more stuff to the system. Yesterday afternoon it was running fine while i had a quick game of Rainbow Islands and it shutdown fine too. But last night when I turned the system on again GameEx crashed and displayed a log file. :o It has been doing the same ever since.

Here is the bottom portion of that log:

15:09:22.9 24/11/2005: Snap Path is: D:\MAME\snap

15:09:22.9 24/11/2005: AVI Snap Path is: D:\Mame\AVI Snaps

15:09:22.9 24/11/2005: Flyer Path is: D:\MAME\flyers

15:09:22.9 24/11/2005: Cabinet Path is: D:\MAME\cabinets

15:09:23.0 24/11/2005: Title Path is: D:\MAME\Titles

15:09:23.0 24/11/2005: Panel Path is: D:\MAME\cpanel

15:09:23.1 24/11/2005: Icon Path is: D:\MAME\icons

15:09:23.1 24/11/2005: Marquee Path is: D:\MAME\marquees

15:09:23.2 24/11/2005: MAME CMD options: -skip_gameinfo -triplebuffer -nowindow -joy

15:09:23.2 24/11/2005: Attempting to load game list

15:09:24.6 24/11/2005: ERRORS DETECTED: EXITING

Is it a problem with GameEx or with MAME or is it something else?

Please help me before I start uninstalling stuff.

Sounds like the MAME game list got corrupted. Delete C:\program files\gameex\gamelist.txt and update the MAME game list.

that happenes to me too a lot of times. (may be 1 per month). Solution. First delete game list. second update list . third: copy paste that game list to a directory yo choose. When the problem appears simply copy again the file you keep into the gameex folder and override the corrupt one.

Now open game ex again and it works!!!

I wonder why the list is getting corruped. How are yout shutting down your PC. GameEx writes the list on exit. All I can think is that it does not have time to finish. Hence gets corrupted. once a month to me would indicate it has to be something to with your setup or how you are shutting down your PC at times.

I shut down my PC using GameEx, it seems to shutdown fine, but shows me the 'It is now safe to shutdown your PC' screen. I then turn of the PC. I dont really like this method of doing it and I am planning on changing it somehow, but for now, while I'm testing it will be fine.

i force kill gameex a lot and have never had a list go bad yet

would be easy to script a list delete for session, not sure if gameex takes time to regenerate the non-mame lists.

By the way if your using version 4.03 expect bugs and issues. There has been literally tons of updates since 4.03.

What OS are you using, the safe to shutdown computer mesage is normal for windows 98. If you use 2000 or XP you probably wont get it.

I like 4.03, I find it is generally error free, and I usually have no problems whatsoever. I guess its just me, but when I find something I like I tend to stick with it.

I'm running Windows XP Pro, and the safe to shutdown message is kinda purplexing me. I know that it should'nt appear, but for some reason it does. I thought it was because of GameEx, but if you say it isnt, then I got to believe you. You are the GameEx God afterall :D

Also, do you know of anyway to remove the windows login screen. (It's another of those 'I know it shouldnt happen but doe's' thingies). Any help would be most welcome.
