Hi,

I'm a new user to gameex. I have been playing around with it the last few days (looked good enough that I paid). The interface and the games all work great (the snaps are instant).

When I exit a game it takes a variable time to get me back to the list. This can be anywhere from 10sec to 5 minutes with the average being about a minute. It does not seem to be game dependent. I have tried playing with the performance tweaks but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I am running a very fast computer. Dual core 2.7ghz with 3gm Ram, but I am also running windows 7. I can run Mala and I don't have this problem so I don't think it is due to MAME.

I have to say it takes a lot if the enjoyment out of the experience since I'm not really playing the same game over and over right now.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Paul

10 seconds can be about right sometimes. Not 5 minutes. When Gameex launches a game a few things happen. Gameex minimises, the emu loads, the emu switches resolutions (most likely). Then you press the Exit button, the process is killed, gameex notices the process is closed, gameex switches the resolution and then maximizes.

So the issue could be with the process not closing in a timly matter, or problems with the resolution switching. You can configure Gameex to run at the same resolution as your desktop and go into the options and tell it not to change resolutions. That will help.

You can configure your emulators to run at the resolution of your desktop, this way it does not have to switch.

You can see what key exits your emulator normally and have gameex send that key or key sequence when pressing ESC, this way the process does not have to be force closed and can help.

You can ensure you have the latest graphic card drivers.

Thanks. I will try the resolution thing. I have already upgraded the video drivers. I checked the log file and there are no errors. I'll look at the time stamps more closely. I'll also try and mirror the setup on my vista machine and see if it has to do with windows 7

also i have noticed that when using compressed iso's it can take longer to go back to gameex because it erases the file after the emulator closes

Well configuring GameEx resolutions didn't do anything. How does one set the resolution in MAME itself?

If I set my computers display to 800x600 resolution it improves things, but a lot of the games (like mortal kombat seem very small)

I don't know if this is the problem or not, but if a process is in the process of closing but needs some human interaction to press a dialog button, it will just hang.

I thought of that but alt tab doesn't bring up any hidden window.

Now here is the weird part. I upgraded to the latest version (you guys update fast my other version was only a few days old) and suddenly everything worked. Then I unplugged the network cable and it slowed down again. does gamex need to be connected?

I have this machine isolated off my network since I turned off my firewall and anti-virus.

It doesn't NEED to be connected. You may have the maws list, or the gameex live list features turned on, so it is trying to connect to get the information.

Good point! GameEx doesn't need to be connected to work. However, there are certain features that will try to connect if you have them turned on (such as MAWS and GameEx Live lists, radio, weather, etc). If you disable all of these web components, then you can work offline.

i briefly but the computer back on-line and downloaded the lists and figured out how to change the resolution in MAME and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks everyone for the help
