Hello all,

I have been trying to add audio files to my current set of background music I already have running. I am not using jukebox, GameEx just plays audio files out of the folder I have it directed to when the program starts. However, upon adding files to this folder, the new audio files will not register with GameEx.

I searched the forums and found the same problem with the Jukebox, and the suggestion was to delete all jukebox dat files. The problem is I don't know which files to delete when I am not using jukebox. I found a "playlist" file in the game ex data folder that had all of my songs listed on it. I tried deleting it to rebuild the cache but the same file returned when the program restarted, so there must be another file hidden somewhere with audio data.

I also tried simply adding the directory and song name to the playlist file, but when I launched GameEx and checked again the file had deleted the song that I added.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The jukeobx problem should not affect the playlist mode. Can you post your gameex.ini?

Im not sure whether your using playlist mode, which is where the jukebox is turned off, or whteher your using the option to start jukebox at startup.

For Jukebox mode, you basically delete the following: data\JukeboxData.dat and data\JukeboxFiles.dat

For playlist mode it should just read the folder each time, buit I dont think it supports subfolders.

I am not at home now so I cannot post the .ini

However, I am not using jukebox mode, I am using playlist mode.

I do not believe that playlist mode reads out of the folder on start up each time. I think it creates an initial playlist file somewhere and that is what is causing the problems, because I can add any number of songs and none of them will play, however the 5 that I had in the folder when I set GameEx to playlist mode do work.

Im pretty sure it does not cache in that instance, Ill look through the code later to be sure. I know it used to save the list as data\playlist.txt but it was never for any real purpose as far as I recall.

EDIT: Just looked, and it does not cache the playlist when not using jukebox mode. It just loads it straight from the folder. What type of files did you add?

Post the log too when you get home.

Yes, it does save the list as playlist.dat I deleted the playlist file completely, but upon relaunching GameEx the playlist file was back, listing only the old songs..... even though my new song was in the same folder as the old songs!

I am adding a single .mp3, all of my current files are also .mp3s

Thanks for the help Tom

edit: Sorry still not home.

Sounds strange to me. For whatever reason it cant see that particular mp3. Try making a copy of one of the others in the same folder, and look at playlist.list to confirm its working. Im guessing its something up with that file.

Alright, I solved it.

It's strange, but adding a second new .mp3 caused the first one to be visible but left the newer one undetected. The song I wanted was written and saved into playlist.dat but the second song i added (a renamed copy of a confirmed working song) was not added to the list.

Anyways, thanks for all the help Tom.
