Slow down MAME games?!?

I've read all the posts about MAME games running too slow but I have the opposite happening. When I run games thru DOS, they run perfectly. When I run them thru a frontend program like GameEX, they run too fast. I've tried the throttle setting and even then the game runs just a bit too fast. What can I do? I love the look of this program but I want to play these games the way they should be, not on crack!

Would be helpful if you wrote which version of M.A.M.E. you're currently using.

I am using mame32. Here's the crazy part. Now the games are running just fine. Not sure what I did, but things are running at the right speed. I changed some .ini settings and changed them back to original and everything worked fine. I must be seeing things. Hope it stays that way!
