i am running an wells gardner d9800 and no arcade vga card but i am running soft 15khz and everything looks great but would it be better to set in gameex the arcade vga setting? that would just set all of the games at the closest original resolution correct? or should i use a program like avres to generate ini files.

thanks

I use AVRESmyself, I tried GameEx's built in option a long, long time ago but I didn't like it for some reason... can't remember why now though

I think you have more control with AVRES as there are some resolutions that my monitor displays but they don't fit the screen very well so I can remove these resolution in Avres and get it to pick something else

how do i find out what resolutions to remove for the d9800? just trial and error? the one thing i cant seem to get correct is the act labs guns with this monitor, act labs say the guns wont work with the d9800 but using soft 15k and setting it to 800x600 it works

sounds like a nice setup mate. i'm a bit confused about your act labs guns... does it work only on 800x600?

Yeah it was just trial and error for me.

I had bother with my LCD TopGun, I could only get it working in 640x480, I think it was because the gun was needing calibrated everytime the resolution changed, so I just set all the gun games to run at 640x480 then took a copy of the ini's so that I could restore them everytime AVRES changed them... now that I'm on vista x64 the TopGun doesn't work anyway

I'm considering the AimTrak that Andy over at UltiMarc has just released but I think I might wait for him to bring out the full gun unit rather than botch 1 together myself

after running soft 15k 800x600 worked in area 51 and poink blank and police trainer. cant seem to get them to work in carnevil, they calibrate but in they game the shots dont register, so i am thinking of getting of going with the ultimarc stuff

All guns will need recalibration if you change the resolution. That's just how they work.

but on carnevil you can go throught all possible calibrations , windows, tab settings this game, bu hitting 9 and f2 in carnevil it wont register the shot to calibrate, i just get a screen flash, using avres to set up the game resolutions area 51 looks great but the screen flash is more brighter white and the white flash sort of distorts on the sides of the screen (you get an hourglass effect) the gun thing from ultimarc looks like it uses a led sensor that is mounted by the monitor? that would be nice to get rid of the screen flashing. i am starting to think the guns arent worth the trouble.

All guns will need recalibration IN WINDOWS if you change the resolution. All light guns are mouse devices and work based on the windows resolution. You may need to calibrate the gun in the game after you have the gun working in windows.
