GameEX on a shared network drive

I was just curious if there would be any problems installing GameEX on a shared network drive and using it on multiple machines. Are there any machine specific configuration or install settings that would prevent this from working?

I install a local copy of GameEx but have the config.ini point to resources on a shared drive. That way I can make certain customizations on a per machine basis. It is kind of a pain to update all of the config.ini's though.

If you're trying to run the same image on multiple machines, one issue I can see is that you may need to tell the .NET framework to trust the copy of GameEx on the share. If you run GameEx from a foreign drive it will be treated as a less secure program and may run into problems. You can change that in the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, .NET configuration. There's a Runtime Security Policy, set it to full trust for the Local Intranet.

Personally, I just put all my roms and images on the network share and install a seperate copy of gameex on my workstation and media center. Yes, I do have to maintain two different config files, but since the hardware is different anyway, it's not really a problem. I map out to the same drive letter on each system, so I only really need to change just a few settings between the config files... i.e. resolution mostly.

Oh well, it was worth a shot. It's not like it's that hard as it is, with all the roms on the same drive letter on all PC's, I was just hoping I could even be a few steps lazier

You could always run a batch file on GameEx startup that copies the GameEx.ini file over to the other machine. Then just make sure all your admin work is done on the machine you run the batch from.
