Hey guys, I have GameEx on my arcade machine now, and so far I've set up about 10 emulators on it...

But, I could really use a bit of input from you guys, because I feel like it's incomplete and missing something.

Here's what I have:

Monitor:

Standard Arcade Monitor from Street Fighter 2.

Controls:

Arcade machine with 2 Happ Joystick/6 Button combos, flipper buttons for pinball, and utility buttons for MAME...

2-4 joysticks

Emulators:

1) MAME

2) Sega CD

3) Genesis

4) SNES

5) NES

6) Sega Master System

7) Atari 2600

8) Daphne

9) Pinball Recreations

10) Original Pinball

Now, what I'd like, would be a list of good emulators to use with any and all unlisted systems (maybe just run down the list of your emulators screen in gameex if you have time?)...

But, I'm not really interested in emulating things like PS, PS2, Dreamcast, etc... really only things that are of manageable size (Sega CD and Dragon's Lair being the exceptions, above)...

So, do you guys have any emulator suggestions that are good for gamepad/arcade stick control that don't have individually super-huge roms? Also of interest would be any PC games that can easily be made compatible with those control mechanisms...

Thanks in advance, I know you guys are probably busy, just trying to flesh out my arcade machine experience.

I use Emulation-Zone.com to pick out my emus whenever I add a new system. They have the links to emu home pages as well as a good blurp about each emu. I personally would recommend checking out a couple emus for each system to make sure you are happy with one prior to working on incorporating it into GameEx. Oh, and there are emulator configs defined for most emus out there, so you should only need to change paths in order to get it working.

Good luck!

Like Tempest said, http://www.emulator-zone.com. There is a few others emus that you might not find there.

Thanks for the links, guys, that forum link has proven super helpful... it's useful for me to see what others have done, because I'm scatterbrained and forgetful... now I have a couple "target" machines to shoot for...

So again, thanks!

Hey, here what I found works the best for my liking.

Emulators:

1) MAME - MAMEUIFX32

2) Sega CD - Fusion

3) Genesis - Fusion

4) SNES - snesgt

5) NES - nestopia

6) Sega Master System - fusion

7) Atari 2600 - mess

8) Daphne - i dont have daphne's set yet, so cant really help you on that matter

9) Pinball Recreations - future pinball

10) Original Pinball - future pinball for all pinball games, visual pinball just isnt close enough to future pinball to make me use it. Future got less tables, but they look so much better

Also for dreamcast and naomi I use makaron and nulldc, makaron for most games tho, it just feel better than nulldc, might be a bit harder to use at first, but once you got it running, it will run almost everything you throw at it. For playstation I use epsxe and I switch plugins whenever a game doesnt work, and project64 for n64 games.

If you have a very good computer more than 3ghz per core dual core cpu, you might wanna try pcsx2 for ps2 games, I got a 6ghz dual core and I run ps2 games at about 75-90% speed, but still aint enough to make it really playable... missing not much.

GameEx is such a good frontend!

The first and only time I tried future pinball, I was impressed by it visually, but slightly underwhelmed by the number of tables that had been recreated... I would have kept it and collected the tables, but, the version I had would not let you use fullscreen on a low resolution monitor, like an arcade screen.

Have they fixed the resolution thing by now? Visual Pinball 8 and 9 are great and have provided me with a ridiculous amount of playtime in the past few weeks, some of the newer full-screen recreations are absolutely incredible, and the dream of playing any of them on a 16:9 display is mouth-watering...

Sorry for the double post, just wanted to say that nullDC is great... but I don't really have much interest in having Dreamcast, PS2, Saturn, or Playstation games on an arcade machine... those games take up a huge amount of space, and generally are meant to be played for a very, very long time, so, I play them on the original consoles or my PC (Shenmue for life, btw).

I put SegaCD on there as an exception to the rule since it has so few games, and, quite a few of them are extensions of their Sega CD titles (Eternal Champions CD, Sonic CD) or are easily playable/savable (Popful Mail) to facilitate the typically shorter bursts of play that standing at an arcade cabinet lends itself to.

I love Mednafen and find that to be a great emulator to use on a cab. Does the NES (in a cab friendly way actually as you can assign a button to swap the controllers easily), SMS, GG, NGP, NGPC, WS, WSC, GB, GBC, GBA, PC-Engine, and is the best emulator hands down for the Lynx. You can set the res individually for each system. Even supports net play.

Ditto. Mednafen has become one of my favorite emulators as well.
