Hi all, your input has been valuable up till now, so i am totally finished with my cab, with just this problem:

when visual pinball runs and the table appears, i can not see the pinmame emulated window that shows graphics, scores, etc and this is probably because gameex runs visual pinball in full screen, on top of everything else..

Before i had visual pinball switch to fullscreen after execution, i could see both the visual pinball window and the vpinmame window at the same time, because both windows were in different places, but this way, gameex closes the emulator (maybe because its not fullscreen again).

So i am either looking for a way to make gameex allow "non fullscreen" mode for this emulator, or a way to popup the pinmame window above the visual pinball window while its in fullscreen (if that is even possible).

I looked around but not really got any answers. :)

Also, just for the record and to not open another thread, has anyone had any success with any other lightgun (or something hacked to be a lightgun like a wiimote e.g.) other than the topgun from ems? I have it, its ok, but nothing spectacular.

I thought of guncon3 which performs great, but then, the software is built around the device as well. (keep in mind i have an lcd screen)

Lightgun: Topgun and Wiimote are currently your only options. There are a couple of other products that are getting some discussion over at BYOAC forums, but so far nothing firm (Andy at Ultimarc is also tossing the rumor out there that he may be developing something).

However, today you only have the two options I mentioned. Topgun works ok, but it requires you to stand pretty far back. Wiimote apparently doesn't work quite as well if you want to play with the crosshairs off, but it does work (apparently it responds more like a mouse than a gun). I have no experience with either product. I personally have a pair of GunCon2's running on my CRT based cab. Tempest has at least one Topgun, so he might have more insight in them, but since you already use them it might not be that helpful anyway.

As for GunCon3...there's currently no drivers that I'm aware of. As such, they aren't an option.

Go to BYOAC to get a much better idea of what's available and coming down the pipe.

I've been testing a Wiimote on my pc the past few days with Mame, and i'll be honest, i'm quite pleased. Once I got past figuring out PPJoy and Glovepie, it hasn't been a major hassle rigging it up. The Wiimote makes a pretty darn good light gun, and makes a great steering wheel! I've found it too be very accurate as a gun...however I will say that i'm still testing it out and can't reach a conclusion just yet. I've tried it with Police Trainer and Point Blank II with great success....but that is with cursor on. I haven't tried it out with no cursor, and that will be the key factor in it's acceptance for sure. I can say that I do recommend it for alot of driving games. Outrun works great with it, and after some tweaking i'm sure I'll have it cookin with more.

The complaint about the Wiimote as a lightgun is that, when you turn off the cross hair, you end up with a lot of latency in aim that can throw off your shots. In other words, the cursor apparently trails where the Wiimote is actually aiming as you move. As a result, you would either need to keep the cross hairs on or accept that you may not be as quick a draw as you would like.

NOTE: I don't have a Wiimote and these opinions were those of other people who posted at BYOAC forums. I have no basis to draw any conclusions one way or the other.

Well, maybe with the new addon for the wiimote (dont remember the name right now) it will be very accurate, if they ever find out how to use it with the aforementioned programs (glovepie etc). In case it JUST speeds up the regocnition, we have a winner, since it will be compatible from day 1, but if it needs special treatment.. lets hope they find a way, cause its wireless and lots of plastic guns holders are around so.. makes it a winner! Only thing missing is this lag (which is the reason i am not happy with the topgun too).

On another note, has anyone had success emulating the pinball tables AND be able to show the pinmame window somewhere on the screen? I would love that...

You mean the new, more accurate version of the Wiimote? I've seen that advertised, but wasn't sure if was just hype. If it works, that would be a pretty sweet solution. Of course, this doesn't solve the link problem that a lot of people have claimed (where the Wiimote requires manual interaction to get it connected to the PC).
