I am almost done configuring the whole lot of my cabinet.

However, i have a couple of problems..

1) because one of the actual keyboard pressed the xarcade controller sends to windows is the "alt" key, the nebula emulator (and only this one) makes the window bar (the one with the file, edit, view, history kind you can find in all apps even in the browser) appear and then it wont go away. Is there a way to override this?

2) some emulators some of the time (which is why this drives me nuts) show up wrong. I have each emulator change the resolution and switch to fullscreen right after execute and i have set gameex to always set the resolution to a specific one, which is the native one for my lcd.. Now when an emulator switches the resolution and shows up bad (meaning i can see half of its screen so i need to auto align my lcd to see it ok), it messes with gameex when exiting. This is because using the auto align probably fixes the resolution the emulator is using, but breaks the resolution gameex is using. Here, the problem is 2 faced. Why on earth would a program that works great by itself not align correctly and why even if this program aligns badly, gameex does not come back fine as long as i have it configured to go full screen at a specific resolution? I think i only have this problem with nebula, will have to try to see if it applies to other emulators as well.

apart from these 2 things everything else is sorted out and is great!

Ok, found out that it is specific resolutions that do this.. the specific screen will not align correctly at certain resolutions (such as 1280x960) which makes it go out of alignment.

I found that using other resolutions worked, however, i now either need a low res or the default res of the screen which is 1400x1050 and nebula will not allow me to go that much.

Also, by choosing to run nebula in the old gui and not the windows gui took care of the windows bar creeping up :)

So, if anyone knows how to force nebula to ho to higher resolutions be my guest :) (or even suggest another emulator for neo geo that rocks)

Mame emulates all neogeo games.

Also the registered version of gameex does key to key mapping, this would fix your ALT issue.

Hi,

i know mame emulates all neo geo games, i would just like to have them separate as well.

Finally, my best setting need to use the window gui so the "alt" thing keeps creeping up. When you say one to one button mapping what exactly do you mean and how would i use it for that matter?

The problem is that the xarcade controller uses the "alt" keyboard button for one of the buttons so i am a little confused on how gameex could help on that matter. I have the same problem with another emulator for the master system that uses a button for resetting the console.. doh!

I have the registered version of gameex.

great little tool, the first link!

One click handles all windows shortcuts, never thought of that, will give it a go and let you know:)

Well, that tool is good but only for windows key + XX combinations...

So i did what i should in the first place, compiled a simple script in autohotkey like that

alt::L

made it into an exe, load it together with nebula, kill it when exiting :)

I still have a couple of things to configure but these were the most weird ones. If i only knew how to configure the model 2 emulator controls holistically and not game by game i would be one happier man, i am looking into it, thanks guys!

Many people have looked into ways of globally setting Model2 controls, but as of yet, I know of no way to do it. Fortunately, the list of Model2 games isn't too long, so it's at least manageable in a session or two.

Yes, its manageable, all right.

I almost did it and i will post an archive with all control configurations, but they will only work with an xarcade (or any pad/stick compatible with the xarcade layout) and the xbox360 controller or any controller compatible with its layout. Its not much, but its what i can give back to this excellent community :)

I will post pics once done. I will probably be done tonight or tomorrow so wait for them :)

Oh, one more thing i would like to ask but always forget. What do i have to do to make gameex display the whole title of a game? For example metal slug instead of mslug for mame and the same for the other emulators.

Also, could someone point to me the biggest/best changes gameex had since version 9.02?

I know i can backtrack through the changes, just asking for your own favorite added thing you cant live without. I will update it once i am done with the configurations (keeping backups of course!).

Metal Slug should display correctly out of the box for MAME. If you want the name to include things like the version number and location, you should turn off the option to remove parenthesis. As for other emulators that use MAME roms, the best thing to do there is to point your emulator to the "[Arcade] MAME" database. This is created each time you update your list so it should keep accurate.

One note of warning though. The MAME database only includes games that GameEx lists. Meaning, if you have any filters set up to remove some games, then the database will not include them. If your emulator can play these games, those entries will remain the rom name. The solution I have come up with is to disable all filters, run the update, copy the database to another location (I call it "[Arcade] MAME All"), turn filters back on, then update your list again. This does take some extra time, but it's only required when you update your rom set and/or MAME version.

Hope that helps.

I haven't updated in awhile either. The three biggest things that come to mind are:

1. Roms in Folders

2. The ability to select which emulator runs a mame rom (Can integrate any emulator, not just Model2, and ZiNC)

3. Customizeable menus. (Apparently you can put any item on any menu)

As I said, I haven't upgraded, but I really need to...
