I've been running Mame32 (the latest) and it's worked well. However NBA Jam, MKII and a few others are painfully slow. On another board someone suggested I try an older version of Mame, which I did (.59) and those games work great now. Question is--is it possible to configure GameEx to work with multiple versions of Mame?

Thanks.

Hi

I checked the FAQ on your site, but I didn't see any mention of this issue.  Where should I be looking?

Thanks.

I was referring to this, specifically the last sentence:

Q: The Game list won't update, or does not update correctly. For example, I see no categories or years.

A: This maybe because you are using an old version of MAME or a derivative build such as MAME Plus.

GameEx has only been tested with the newer versions of the official Windows MAME, MAME32 and AdvanceMAME. Get the latest official version of Windows MAME or MAME32. Once the Games list has updated correctly, you can probably swap over to your derivative or older build.

PS. I realise it's not what your asking, but it's the best I am offering B)

GameEx will work will more then one versoin of mame32 , just make sure the version of mame that you want to use recognizes your roms first, then change the GameEx exe rom path to that specifc mame version.

you could try setting up the 2nd mame (for specific games) as if it's another emulator... probably not exactly what your after though - you'll end up with 2 mame menus

To do it, use gameex as normal for the main mame you want used, and for specific games with older mame versions (like MKII), make a .bat with something like this in it...

@ECHO OFF
C:
CD "C:\mame\mame59"
mame.exe outrun -rompath "C:\mame\ROMs\" -skip_disclaimer -skip_gameinfo

of course change the paths and commands to suit yourself (the skip one's aren't needed for it to work).

check out what Tom says about "launching PC games" with .bat files (in another thread) and set up the gameex config the same way.

might be best to not use spaces in the .bat files names - I had some trouble running mame games when I had spaces (which I don't understand why) - other games with spaces worked (like N64).

But anyway, this would make the games you want running with older mame versions in a different menu, like the other emulators, and without the extra info, but at least it'll work.
