Hi Tom,

I am having a problem with the Model2 game list. I have the most recent version of GameEX and I am using the most recent version of the Model2 emu (0.9). When I update the game list there are always a few games missing, and I am wondering if the list is generated from MAME information. For example, I am using a complied version of MAME (.123) and when I put the newest ROM for Virtua Fighter 2 into my ROM folder, it is not picked up on the list. But when I put in an older version of the same ROM in the folder it does appear on the list. Is there a way to add games manually to the model2 list, or a way it can list the game if any ROM with the correct name is present? Besides people having an older versions of MAME, a few of the current Model2 games ROMs do not match the current MAME set, so matching by ROM name would be a good thing if it was possible.

Thanks!

i remember there was a discussion about missing model 2 games in gameex. i think tom has to add new titles to gameex if i remember this right. just do a quick search for it.

sorry, i'm too lazy to do it myself :)

Hey Chriss,

I did search, found a lot of Model2 stuff, but not what I was looking for. My question to Tom is if you select to use the Model2 emu within MAME (like Zinc) to have the model2 list go by if the rom is present or not, not by it's status in MAME if possible. I believe the games showing on the list currently is dependent on the ROM matched with the MAME set, not the Model2 set.

How many of your roms are showing in the Sega Model 2 List jombee?

I have 28 on my list, but I do not use the clones or alternate versions.

The 3 games that I cannot get on the list are:

Rail Chase 2 (rchase2)

Sega Water Ski (segawski)

Wave Runner (waverunr)

I am using a complied (HeadKaze) version of MAME .123

Have you tried adding those roms to the Don't Filter These ROMS setting found in the Advanced MAME Settings?

Yes, I have them all listed in the don't filter also.

Silly question perhaps, but do these roms exist in your rom directory? If you have them in the do not filter list and the file doesn't physically exist, it might not show up in the list.

Hi, thanks for replying.

Yes, they are in there. But it seems like since I have version 123 of MAME (over 1 year old), I need to put the older model2 roms in my MAME rom directory, and the correct newer model2 roms in my 2nd rom folder for model2 (both are listed in the model2 ini file). For example, if I put the most recent vf2 rom in my mame directory, vf2 will not show up on the GameEx model2 list. When I put the older rom in the MAME directory, GameEx lists the rom. When I play the game, it uses the correct newer rom from my model2 directory. For some reason the 3 games I listed above never show up on the GameEx list, regardless of which version rom I am using in the directories.

GameEx tells Model2 where to look for roms (your standard MAME rom directory). If you don't want it to do that, you can either make the model2 ini file read only or use a loader (such as MAME_Loader) to strip the undesirable command line parameters.

I figured it out, and it was exactly what I thought it was. When I updated MAME to version 130, all the Model2 games showed up fine. I really didn't want to update MAME, it would be nice if the Model2 emulator use within GameEx would just go by if the rom is there or not, not by it's status in MAME.

Thank you everyone for your help!

Only other solution would be to setup as an emulator and not use the integrated part of GameEx. Then you could have more control and can still list the same way more or less using the MAME db.

Yeah, you are right, but I like how it works integrated in GameEx. Now my problem is getting my new version of mame to work without nags, messages and high score support. I've done everything correctly as far as I can tell, but it isn't working.

Hard to say as I can't see what exactly is going on. I did it with no problems so maybe someone will jump in and see if they're having that issue as well or can give some input.

I setup model 2 as its own emulator It works great

but when I click on a game it takes me to the emulator screen, then Ive got to go in an select a game

from the emulator list is there a way to go from gameex straight to the game?

Is there a way to change the game names, for example(The House Of The Dead instead of hotd)

I changed the name of the rom but then it wouldnt load

For the naming issue, Just use the map file for that emulator and point to it in configuration. The map can be found here. As far as your other issue, I'm not quite sure what you mean. The game should be launching directly from the list unless you have zip support turned on or something. Please give more info about what you mean.

Use Bkenobi's Mame Loader:

I wrote a GUI for it, that does what you want, it only runs the games that you have roms for in each emulator:

You will still have to set Model 2 up as an emulator, but it will be integrated into Mame. If you need help, or find any of this confusing, let me know.
