Hi -

New registered user of Game Ex here. I am in the process of getting my cabinet together and getting Game Ex configured on my computer to place inside the cabinet. Everything seems to be going alright so far, I did have a question about making MAME videos that you can preview within Game Ex. I created a few .mng videos with MAME that work great, but the file size is a tad big (between 15-50 Megs). I tried to use Fraps to record a few small video clips and then compress them to .avi files with the DivX and Xvid codecs. Both of the codecs compressed the clips and they play in Game Ex, but there is a slight hesitation (2 Seconds) before the clip actually plays and during that time the cursor displays the system busy bubble as it prepares the video clip to be played. This hesitation does not occur with the video clips that are in the .mng format, they play smoothly and instantly. Can someone advise me the best way to create clips of high quality before I attempt to make serveral hundred or possibly thousands (Gulp) of these tiny clips only to find out later I should have done it a different way? I looked and searched around on this forum and tried to google for help on this, but there didn't seem to be that much information around. IMO this is one of the coolest features of Game Ex and I would like to be sure I get these videos right.

Thanks in advance ! ;)

If you are set on recording your own videos, you should be aware that you are not going to get the sound. The built in recorder only captures video.

Now, if it were me, I would just go to Emumovies.com and download the complete MAME set. Circo has spent a LOT of time building an awesome set. Unless you are bandwidth limited, I would go that route without a question. If you are limited, I would consider buying a DVD from Circo.

Just my opinion, but the work has already been done (and done well), so why reinvent the wheel here!

and if you are a registered gameex user you get a pretty hefty discount as well. :)

HEY Thanks for the replies !

Yeah, I was looking over at the Emu movie site. How good of quality are the video clips they have there anyway ? I might just do that, it would save alot of time.

Well, I got my info from Emu Movies and logged in. I am impressed with the quality of the videos and the FTP site in general. I do unfortunately experiance this lag hesitation, as I mentioned in my original post, while moving through the list of my games. It seems really bad for some reason to the point if I move through the list quickly it is like it is on the verge of locking up the program. Does this happen for everyone or is it something in my system not reading these videos quick enough? I installed FLV Player 2.0.25 and tried the .flv files off Enu also, but while it was trying to play the video clip it crashed the entire Game Ex program. The only type of video I have managed to get working smoothly are the .mng files.

This hesitation with the .avi files is tolerable, but I would like to find a fix or workaround so they play as smooth in the interface as the .mng files.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance !

there is an option in the tweaks section of gameex setup. you can change the way gameex searches for snaps (exact match or fuzzy i think)

did you try changing the option over there?

I dont really have any kind of speed issues when i go thorugh my list, it works flawless with the emumovies videos!

Thanks for the suggestion; however, the only option in tweaks that I saw was "snap/video delay" changing this setting made no difference at all. Im going to try to remove all the installed codecs I have on the system and see if that does anything.

The problem I'm having is severe in my opinion. When I move the cursor from game to game the cursor actually changes to the blue system busy bubble for a full second or more before it starts the video. When I move rapidly down or up the list it's almost like the whole program hangs.

Success !!!!! ;)

Uninstalled the divx and xvid codecs that I had installed. Then the videos would'nt play at all !! haha Re-installed only the xvid codec and there smooth now. Guess DivX was the problem. :D

I want to make some nes videos to games not done in emumovies yet (i.e European games like Astreix, Beauty and the Beast, Mr. Gimmick etc). I have a powerful enough rig so i know i can do it, i was just wondering what you would recommend. I want to get as close to the quality in NES [Videos][AVI-HiQ][GoodMerge NES 3.14] [EmuMovies 20090225] as i can.

I highly recommend talking to Circo or GreatFlash about this. Circo made the vast majority of emumovies content. I know Flash has been helping out on some systems, so he might be able to advise on what Circo recommends. I know others can make recommendations, but it seems like asking the expert would be prudent.
