Hi,

Hopefully this isnt a stupid question -i have searched and gone back several pages looking for my answer.

I have latest version of gameex - just installed for first time - using vista

If i run Gameex as a in user mode ( ie not administrator ) I do not get mame / emulators appearing on the menu.

If i run "as administrator" then i see mame etc all works fine.

Trouble is i also use glovepie (wii remotes) / ppjoy / other 3rd party apps. and for them to talk to gameex they also need to run as administator. this causes some problems.

Why does Gameex need to run in administrator mode? has anyone else had this happen?

I don't know anything about vista but i thought that was a common problem with vista and is not particular to GameEX.

The easy fix would be to disable UAC. You can do that in Control Panel -> User Accounts.

If you don't want to do that, you can right click on an offending EXE, go to Compatiblity, and then check the "Run as Administrator" checkbox. Do that with everything that needs administrative access and they should all work fine together.

I think it has something to do with where files are stored. I don't run Vista, but I recall HK mentioning something about it.

GameEx should automatically set a registry key so GameEx can run as administrator. So I'm not sure what is going wrong for you there. Make sure you install GameEx under administrator. Other than that Tom might have some ideas.

Thanks for the help.

I have copied gameex folder from "program files" into c:\emulators and i can run it from there fine without any admin rights. I think the problem must be due to gameex.exe writing to program files directory ( log file? )

Anyway - moving the folder has sorted all issues.
